  • TJM XGS suspension - any good?

Just after opinions on the TJM XGS suspension. Asked for a quote today at TJM in Carlton, Sydney. It was suggested that I go for the heavy duty coils, front and rear, and I would not need polyairs on the rear, as the HR weight distribution hitch would sit the Prado just right (will be towing an off road van, 18 footer Goldstream)

Will the heavy duty suspension be too heavy for general use (will be adding a steel bar, 2nd battery up front, and a drawer system in the rear, sometimes with a fridge)

I was otherwise considering Bilstein shocks and Kings springs.

    Yowie.

Next time we head out for a play mate you can take iLean for a drive if you like. Going to space the front strut next week so it will back to being called Prada (leather handbag as my Pajero loving friend calls it) instead of iLean...

I love the ride but best of all so does Lawry.

Re: TJM XGS suspension - any good?

          Yowie,
give me a week to gets picks organised etc. I am stuck in Roma looking to test the wading ability of the Prado on our way back to Mackay tomorrow. The springs are the TJM heavy duty load carrying set up. thye are beautifully compliant, more than I thought, but hold the car really flat if you corner with a bit of spirit.

I can gie you better details about the whole set up when I get home and find the paper work. Alternatively give Drew at TJM Maroochydore a ring and ask what he put in Peter Flanders Prado last week. He is a great bloke ot deal with.

          regards

            Thanks Flash,

I called Drew, sounds like a good bloke (but he is a long way from Sydney), stated he fitted a heavy duty set-up front and rear, plus coils in the rear, as Peter is towing a heavy unit.

I got TJM XGS Gold + Heavy in the front and constant in the back. Ride is 100 times better, even the wife noticed the difference. no more nose diving, sweeping around corners and bouncing all over the place

Interesting to note that TJM have the same part number for the coils between the 120 and 150. The shocks are however different.

Re: TJM XGS suspension - any good?

                          Yes amts, you are correct.

I have just had the HD raised front coils, raised rear coils and shocks fitted, and the parts numbers correspond to what you quoted for the 150 numbers. I also had Polyairs fitted to the rear.

The ride height prior to fitting was

                          F/N/S - 745mm - F/O/S - 750

                          R/N/S - 795 - R/O/S - 790

After 2,000 kms driving to allow for settling

                          F/N/S - 770 - F/O/S - 770

                          R/N/S - 840 - R/O/S - 840

The rear does stick up a little more now, but that will drop once my van is attached (still waiting for the bloody van, the factory at Packenam was flooded and things delayed).

A TJM-13 steel bar is on the front, plus 2nd battery, and an Outback drawer system and half barrier in the rear.

The ride is firmer, but does not wallow during cornering.

                          Yowie.

pretty sure tjm springs are king springs. given king haven't change their springs for the 150, this makes sense.

Aha, another piece to the puzzle. I was wondering why in the King springs catalogue, the same spring was listed for the 120 and 150. So if the 150 is a couple hundred kg heavier than the 120, why are the same springs used?
