    Hi guys,

New to this website, and just upgrading to the 150 series.
Can anyone tell me the largest best all terrain/off road tyre for the Kakadu 18"?
I want it to fit in the spare wheel carrier, or at least have the spare fit, and be able to drive without ably with the others.

I am enquiring about the largest tyre size without lift kit that won't rub, but are also keen to know the best tyre that will also fit in the spare wheel cover?

Please help inform me whether the cooper tyres are lt rated, or good enough? Is the LTZ Xeon ok?

    Thanks,

    Wal.

        Thanks Daz,
I see you have Cooper LtZ's, are they good tyres, even though not Light truck construction?
Do they fit in the spare wheel carrier?

        Cheers,

        Wal.

          Hi Wombat,
          What area in Adelaide?
Are you still happy with the tyres?
And are they suitable offroad, seeing as not light truck?

          Wal.

I do have them and love them don't get too hung up on the old "must be light truck or you will die in a tyre blow out accident". Mine have done about 35,000ks about 40% worn VERY good off road in most situations...slight road noise over grand craps BUT will just touch your upper control arms in extreme off road situations, not enough to even mark the tyre but rubs black paint off upper control arm. I would buy them again but like most you tend to want to try different tyres when you get the chance so may try the AT/3 275x65x18" next tyre its slightly narrower and slightly taller than the Zeon. If you don't plan big off road adventures or pull big heavy vans around Australia LT is not essential....We think we need them because three times a year we go on a beach.

Couldn't see the cover. Can you get the standard cover on the spare?

Read thru some of you threads, nice rig.

Thanks Wal...yes it fits over the tyre but you can't do up the bottom silver latch as it sits off the door with the spacer.

                    Hey guys,

I am down to a few choices now, but need some help with the following points, if anyone can clarify.
                    BFG 265/65/18
                    BFG 285/65/18
                    Cooper zeon LTZ 285/60/18
                    Yoko Geolander AT 265/60/18
                    Yoko Geolander AT 285/60/18
Can anyone confirm Whether any of the above 65's do or don't fit in the spare wheel cover ( I understand I'll need the kaymar spacer )
And if anyone has any of the above 285's, and if they rub anywhere without a lift?

On top of that, I have read great comments on coopers and BF's, but no little of the Geolander AT's.
Any feedback on those would be great.

                    Cheers guys,

                    Wal.

                    • Thank you MickMac_42.

Same tyre in AT but with different size. Only BFG available in Thailand no Cooper yet.
From reading it is my understanding that 275/65R18 will fit fine with 2"lift?

                      Thanks.

What about 275x65x18" cooper AT/3's? Ideal size me thinks. The BFG's are good old faithfuls but the new cooper AT/3's are latest technology, materials etc etc not saying that makes them better time will tell. I had Geolanders for a while they were good but I wanted a bit more aggressive so went the Zeons, the yoko's were less aggressive but as noisy.

                        • Just had BFG 265/65/18 fitted to my 2012 kakadu, the guys told me it wouldn't fit in the back cover (seriously an extra 10mm or there abouts) from standard.......I guess I will need to sort it out myself as per usual!!! I think with a bit of brains it will fit
I'll let you know once I've done it!
2012 Graphite Kakadu, bush pin striping, BFG's and everything you can think of !!!

I have the same tyres on my 2009 Kakadu, they are actually about 25mm larger than the stock Dunlop GrandTrek 265/60/18. IIRC the outer diameter on the Dunlops is 775 while the BFGs are 801, I'll double check. I still have the standard tyre as my spare so the cover fits but I'm told it won't fit if I swap the spare out for a BFG.

In another thread I was told the Cooper AT3s of the same size will fit once the tyre has worn down a few mm and the rubber bumpers inside the cover are shaved down a bit. I haven't been able to determine if the Coopers have the same OD as the BFGs however.

Either way you will need spacers to mount the BFG on the spare wheel bracket or you could just get the alternative bracket from Brains (look for it in the For Sale forum).

If you do manage to get the cover to fit let us know, I'm not real happy about having the spare as a smaller tyre.
