I had Toyota put GXL rims on my VX, GXL rims are +25 offset the same as the 18s but the smaller diameter rubbed on the sway bar of the VX as its different then GXL due to the KDSS.
So I requested FJ rims as this is the same rim that is used on the 4Runner with KDSS in the states. and has an offset of +15. this has given me a wider track of +20 which from what I understand is still legal in SA, as my goal has been to keep it within the legal boundaries for everyday use.2012 - 150 VX

My BFGs are coming off on Monday and getting replaced with Bridgestone D697s in the stock Kakadu size. I'm not paying for them so it's all good although I'm sure the dealer will keep the BFGs that are about a year old. Neither me nor the dealer were able to get an OK from Vicroads for the slightly larger BFGs that were on the Kakadu when I bought it.

I got my Kakadu back this morning from the dealer with a fresh set of Bridgestone 265/60/R18 D697 AT LT spec tyres on it. They make the Kakadu look like it's had a lift now since they fill less of the arches than the BFG 265/65/R18 they replaced. First impressions are they ride a bit less firm than the BFGs and run fairly quiet on the black top; have not had a chance to try them on anything else yet.

I looked at putting 17" rims on the ZR shorty, but I like the look of the 18" standard rims so I was glad when there finally was a choice for LT tyres in the 18s.
I was torn between getting the Bridgestone D697LT or the BF Goodrich TA KO's. I've managed to get the KO's for $30ea more than the Bridgestones although they are out of stock until January. That's good because I'll have money for Xmas. The reason I went with the KO's was because they have a higher load rating (122R as opposed to 114S) and as all the weight packed into a shorty sits towards the back of the vehicle, the more robust tyre won out. Also I'm going to put a 2" lift in at the same time so that should help with the arch look. The Grandtreks have done 60,000km and have actually managed to survive the bush driving although the sidewalls do show the "wear and tear" of the tracks. Rotation and tyre pressures have been the reason they've survived for so long with 40% life still in them. WA is not a problem with the larger size as far as I can tell from the legislation. How did the BFG's wear in the year you had them on fido?2009 Prado 150 ZR SWB, Silver Pearl, Snorkel, Tow Bar, 2" lift Tough Dog shocks and springs, BFG LT 265/65/18, ARB bullbar, GME TX3340 radio, ARB awning and mosquito tent. I have one life, why waste it wishing away when I can get out there and have fun!

Sorry Fluffy, I only had them for about a week LOL. I bought the Kakadu 2nd-hand; they were already fitted when I bought it. I know they'd been on for a year because I rang the tyre mob that fitted them in my quest to sort out the sizing issue. To me they looked brand new, no real signs of wear at all. From what the previous owner told me they hadn't done all the trips that were planned so I suspect they had mainly seen blacktop driving.
Here's a pic of the tyre on my rim, not the best but all I have handy at the moment :-

Thanks for that, yes they certainly don't look like they've been worked hard. Hopefully the vehicle will get to "play" in your hands. Can't wait to get mine further set up so I can tackle the trips I want to do (like the Kennedy ranges, Kimberley) with more confidence. Having the 100 and 200 series look at the Shorty like she's a toy car does get frustrating too.

You r spot on do not get a +30 as it will rub on the upper control arm, been there done that. I have a +18 wheel works fine but anything between 15 and 25 should be good.Rob
