  • GX tyre choices

    Hi guys,
I am looking at Coopers for my 150 GX Prado tyre size is 245/70R17 (a bit of a barstard size)
There is a choice of H/T or S/T in that size in Coopers, most others don't even list anything other than H/T.

Most of my driving is city or the long trip from Perth to the east once or twice a year.
In WA it is mostly sand driving which the H/Ts are a great choice but once I venture into the eastern states rock mud etc should I choose S/T.
The little bit of noise difference wouldn't worry me but would the wear rate be similar on either.
I can ask the tyre dealers but most of you guys have been around 4wds for a while and aren't as bias as the tyre dealer in your opinions

    From another thread I started.
    Re: 150 GX tyres

From my investigation there are AT tyers from coopers, micky thompson, perilli scorpion LT, hankook, general "grabber" (look just like the BFG AT) all for the GX in the specified size. There are others I think but they do not meet the load or speed rating. The 6.5 inch rims limit you to the standard size tyers.
I would be intrested in what you find.

      Hello Limo guy,

Toyo make a Open Country 245/75 -17 in LT. These will lift the whole car by about 12 mm. I had toyo's on a Range rover once and I was more than happy with them for all terrain running ( no mud ). I am considering Toyo and Cooper ST for my next tyres on my GX but may go with a rim change yet. Toyo $325 and ST $330.

      regards

      Ross

          Also..

I have the Cooper ST's fitted and work great for me. If your not after such an aggressive pattern I looked hard at the Bridgestone D694LT as a good alternative.

It's either ST Maxx or A/T3, and not ST Maxx 3 (unless you're in the Cooper design team and know of a new model coming up).
Unfortunately, they are not available in 245/70R17 (yet).

Doesn't matter what you call it. They still look awesome. Are you able to measure the tread depth? Apparently, they are 18.5mm according to a website.

Yokohama make a geo12 in the correct size. Read some good reports about them.
