    I've got 265/65-18 AT3's, only 800mm diameter not 815 also 10mm narrower than the 275's.

They fit well, no rubbing anywhere.

Not sure if that helps much though

      Hey BNEGXL,
Just checking, im looking to fit some better tyres to a 150 VX,
and your at3's fit, is that with or without any lift or suspension upgrade?

I want to fit MT atz 4 rib - 275/70/18's but fear they will rub
but wont be doing any lift work for a few months
      cheers
      Geoff

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

I had the tyres fitted before the lift, they didn't rub at all.

Those are huge: 847 mm diameter. Will be interesting to see if they fit - the ground clearance would be awesome.

                Guys...

I've just bought a set of 17x8 King Steelies with 0 offset for a new camper trailer build. These are fitted with 285/70/17 Cooper STT's. I decided to experiment and fit them to the 150. I have a 2" lift. Attached are the photos. with "0" offset i have a good 15mm clearance from the UCA. This was not hard against the bump stop but the maximum turn it would sit at without someone holding the wheel down. You know what i mean... Tight clearance at the front of the tyre against the ARB bar. Should be fine. Touching the mud flap. Nothing a few tex screws could fix. I reckon i had 10mm of tread outside the arch.

From this study... My guess is the ET12 or 15 rims would be perfect!!!!

I know they won't be legal on the Prado... But they would get me out of trouble if needed!

Geez that last pic really shows just how much taller these tyres are! They would certainly make a big difference in taking off from the lights.

They look good. Might be a few problems on compression though looking at that bullbar pic.

So is anybody manage to fit 285/70R17 tyres yet without any rubbing problems? Or is the max tyre size 275/70R17 with a 2" lift?
                          Cheers,

                          SLY.

I was hoping we would have a definitive answer on this by now as i need to specify the replacement BFG A/T for the new 150 delivery next week.

At this stage, it appears like 265/70R17 are the largest OD tyre we can fit without CA modifications and selective plastic trimming.

It would be appreciated if someone could confirm.

                            Regards,

                              Hi Nath,
The sound of silence is deafening! Must be that nobody has fitted the larger tyres without mods and trouble.
Another thing to consider is weight of the spare on the door. Those hinges are struggling as they are. Bigger LT's weigh more. As soon as you get in corrugations and days of dust the hinges will protest. I have 265/70 BFG and wouldn't want to gear the car up any further. 5th is a tall overdrive, so bigger tyres mean fewer revs for the same road speed. Big tyres are sexy, but do you really need the hassle?

                                Nathan

                                I wanted to put 285 x 70 x 17's on.

I have an ARB OME lift and there is plenty of clearance around the wheels & guards.

The show stopper was the decreased clearance to the upper control arms.

I think an after market set of wheels with increased offset combined with genuine 50 mm lift will do it.

The offset would only need to be 10mm greater than standard rims.

This with tyres is legal in Victoria.

I still have to get my head around offset i.e. what the standard Toyota is & if you subtract or add when you want to increase track width.

The bigger size will fit on the door with a spacer but the cover will not fit.

                                ARB are running a 275 x 70 x 18 on one of their Prado's these are 12mm taller than the 285 x 70 x 18.

The benefits of the 285's are increased height under the diff & body & increased track width for greater stability.

The disadvantages are speedo might be out, gearing, possibly illegal in other states, might affect warranty.

With a 50mm lift they will look like what should be on the car in the first place.
