After looking around on this forum and receiving lots of information and advice regarding wheels and tyres for the 150 I finally made a decision and fitted - 17x8 dynamic steels wheels with Maxxis bighorn 764 265/70r17.
The wheels obviously increase the track but within the legal increase based on the GX model 1605 (new track 1625).
I know the tyre diameter is a bit larger than legal.
There is no rubbing anywhere and didn't need to cut any plastic etc.
I noticed an increase in noise straight away but it doesn't get louder as the speed increases. I haven't owned muddies before so can't comment if they are LOUD. It's my wife's daily driver and she hasn't commented but is definitely noisier. I have been off road which took me from Sydney up through the blue mountains in the pooring rain, that includes a winding hilly road and I didn't notice any problem with the on road performance in the wet and felt confident with the grip and braking. Off road around Lake Lyall /Rydal it rained and was very wet. I was very happy with the performance over steep climbs, rock and slippery mud (nothing too deep).
The thing that surprised me most in a good way was, I reckon it performs better on road at speed on corners it felt like the increase in track width made it handle better, more stable.
So all in all very happy with the decision for both the look and performance. In a perfect world they would be quieter but you can't have it all.
Also found a way to secure new spare wheel without the use of chain that can be cut. I drilled a hole in the spare wheel bracket and put in an eye bolt that can be seen through the triangle of the wheel then a padlock can be put through the eye bolt. The shackle part of the lock is not accessible to bolt cutters as its on the other side of wheel and the main lock part is large enough to stop the wheel being lifter off. If interested I can post a pic to explain.
