I had the AT's put on my Prado the day after I bought it. They're good tyres. It wouldn't matter which tyre you asked about; someone will always come out with a disaster story. I've also had 2 sets of AT's on my other 4wd so I've done hundreds of thousand of k's on them. The only concern is driving on the slick city roads in the rain. If you're a hot-head driver like some of the young blokes I see driving their truck like a sports car, you could find they're slippery.

I've had the AT3's fitted for about a year now and cannot fault them. Quiet on the bitumen, work well in sand and survived the Flinders Ranges, Birdsville, Longreach, Mackay, Fraser Island, Adelaide trip without a mark. I would buy them again.

FWIW My Toyota service rep says he has had Generals on his Cruiser and got 130,000 from them. I think he will get them again. He says it all depends how hard you drive. He does freeway driving every day.

I have only done 10,000km with my AT3s and they have been fine.

You will always get people bagging Coopers, and they are generally the people who have never actually used them. My best friend is a local mechanic, and he hates Coopers, yet, has never driven a car with them. I cant see how he makes his statements. He keeps saying they are over priced, but my experience is, you get what you pay for, and they weren't that badly priced when compared to BFGs.

Thanks again for all the feedback.

I just a quote for Maxxis Bravo 771. Quite a reasonable quote.
Internet feedback seems good and value for money.
Anyone our there have tried the Maxxis?

Mate, I'd give the Maxxis a miss. I've had experience with Maxxis Bravo, Cooper AT3 and BF Goodrich AT - as well at the stock Dunlops.
The Maxxis are an acceptable tyre, but wear quickly - so they're probably more on par with the stock Dunlops. For my money, I've now got the BFG's all round on my Prado. Cheaper than Coopers, and I've found they're a bit better quality in recent years. Both get excellent km's though, and road noise is minimal. Let us know what you end up getting.

                  New boots go on tomorrow.
                  They are AT3's in 265/70/17's.
I know it will affect the speedo a bit. Speedo is already out about +5km/h so it should make it more accurate.
                  What about the odo???
Will I put on less kay's now???

                  Cheers

                    AT3 issues

I have had my Cooper AT3's fitted for the past 2 years or so and have been very happy with them. The only problem I have been having is the sidewalls are having a few issues. The white layer is starting to show through, I think it might only be a superficial problem but it does look a little average. Looks like the outer layer of rubber is wearing through a little.

I thought it might be related to incorrect tyre pressures but I am normal very careful and adjust pressures and speed to suit conditions.

                    • General road driving 38-40psi

Beach and off road driving speed is limited to 60km/h or less. Do these figures sound about right or am I doing it wrong?

Kevdevi...... those pressures are exactly what I run on my BFGs. Seems to work well with no problems in close to 70,000km including lots of inland tracks.

I thought the pressures were fine. I did a tyre rotation today and noticed quite a few small cracks in-between the tread blocks and a fair amount of chipping to the tread blocks. All up I have done about 50,000km and have about 9mm of tread left so the tyres are far from worn out.

Sorry to hear that kevdebbi, but you are not alone. I posted a question last month on here whether anyone else had had cracking between the treads on their AT3's and all the responses were no problems with AT3's. My rear tyres cracked between the treads at about 40,000klms. This was my first set of Coopers. Treated them the same as my Yokohamas with regards to use and pressures. Bitterly disappointed.

Flow cracks, fault with manufacturing because cooper use a white rubber layer, all other makes use painted writing.

Cooper will replace them free of charge, I went through six pairs of tyres in my patrol in 40,000km for free, but won't get them again.

Thanks Symo, are flow cracks just a superficial problem or are they more serious? Did they resist swapping your tyres like most business would or was their customer service good? Sounds like I need to contact them and see what they have to say.

I also have several cracks / splits between the tread blocks as shown below.
