    BFG AT 265/70/R17 or 265/65/R17?

    Thought this may be useful.

Official reply from VicRoads re maximum allowable increase in diameter.

"The maximum allowable tyre diameter for an off-road type 4WD is 50 mm greater than the diameter of the largest wheel/tyre combination listed on the vehicle's tyre placard. You should note that should you fit these larger diameter tyres it will probably be necessary to correct your speedo to mainatain its accuracy within the Australian Design Rule limits."

    Cheers, Sam.

Not Qld, not sure about the others. You best bet is a 275/65/17.

They are illegal in SA without an engineering certificate also.

Apparently, you can go with 275/65R17s and remain legal, but not 265/70R17s. Don't quote me on that though!

Will there be a noticeable decrease in grunt with the larger tyres due to the change in gearing? .
They knocked the performance of my diesel a bit. But yours has a lot more grunt!

Obviously the advantage is more clearance with the 70 series tyres.

This vehicle will be used off road.

                Cheers, Sam.
                Sam,

I just changed to Bridgestone 694LT in a 275/65/17 on a 150 petrol auto. About 13mm larger in diameter than 265/65/17's and legal in NSW (allowed up to 15mm difference). Took it for a short highway run, put the boot in about 90 k/h, and the Prado just took off to 120 k/h in no time. Appeared to have plenty of grunt left.

                Yowie.

Does anyone know if the 265/70/17 BFG A/T and the 275/65/17 BFG A/T fit under the rear spare tyre cover on the 150 without modification?

I should be picking up my new 11 GXL next week and wanted to swap tyres straight away. But have been advised that 265/70/17 are at least 4 weeks away
Apparently 275/65/17 are available but I'll worried the spare won't fit under rear cover.

Hi everyone I'm going to be fitting suspension lift in the near future but need new tyres now so I'm looking into the biggest size without any probs such as rubbing. With the two options 265/70/R17 or 275/65/R17 is there any with these? . I have seen another member with these fitted 275/70/R17 in the bighorns with only raised springs in the rear. This looks awesome and i would love to get them but afraid they will rub knowing my luck i have a 2010 TD GXL.Any help here would be gratefully appreciated.
