I have just spoken to a large national insurance company and they have no issues with modifications as long as they are legal. They were very clear that tyres that were outside legal spec would void any insurance claim. I was told that if I wanted tyres larger in diameter than the state authority allows then I must have an engineers certificate to make them legal. In Victoria VicRoads allows you to have a diameter increase of 15mm only. This means any tyre larger than 265/60 R17 will void insurance if fitted without an engineers certificate. Has anyone obtained a certificate and can you give us a clue as to the effort and cost involved?
