Re: Steel Rims for 150 GX

So the way I see it, I cannot under track vehicle, Toyota only "recommend" using the same wheels and offset, therefore it is up to the ADR and State rules. If the 120 steel rims I have are 5mm less offset than 150 wheels then that would be undertracking if I was replacing a 7.5 inch rim with a 7.5 inch rim, but I am replacing a 6.5 inch rim with a 7.5 inch rim which is 5mm less offset. Therefore the offset is reduced by 5mm but the new rims are increased width by 1 inch or 25mm, i.e. 12.5mm each side, so I would be increasing the track by 7.5 mm all round not reducing the track. I understand it is legal to over track a wheel base by up to 15mm?
    Does that all sound correct?

Track is measure from the centre of the tyre tread...so width does not matter 1 little bit in a track measurement ONLY offset of the rim. Your offset will still be reduced by 5mm... depending on the state depends on how much you can increase the track but none let you 'decrease' the track as far as im aware

Some states the track can be widened up to 26mm ...

        Hi,

From what I can gleen the before correspondence has not provided any substantial outcome. Can anyone provide the name of an establishment who can supply suitable steel rim wheels for a 2010 Prado (150 series) as a second spare. I need to procure within the week.

        Regards,

        Lyall

Not sure about steel but Speedy Avalanche comes in the exact size and offset for the 150.

Re: Steel Rims for 150 GX

When I needed a set of rims for my camper that that was interchangeable with my 150 GX, I could not find a set. I had the following options. 1- buy genuine Toyota ones, 2- have alloys made from scratch, both of these options were costly, 3rd option have a set of steel wheels made, which is what I did. Centers with the correct offset were welded into blank rims.

A couple of facts for consideration

120 Prado rim offset is 25P and a 150 offset is 10P. As such you are risking some interesting issues if you want to move that far away from offset

We have sourced some 8" rims for our GXL with the 10P offset from Dynamic Wheels via our contacts. Please not they are 8" not 7.5

              Regards

Yesterday I fitted 5 steel rims from Dynamic (17x8) with 10P offset for my 150 GXL with a set of new BFG LT265/65x17 ATs - on the advice of the local tyre dealer who was rec by a friend at my Toyota dealer. There is a slightly different driving feel to the Grandtreks around town, as you'd expect, but I don't have any experience to compare it with. They had trouble fitting the rear spare cover, so I have now taken that off and painted the lead weights and bolts etc black to match the rims. Will advise if any issues develop.
