  • Watertanks for a prado 90 series

Hi Folks, Long time since asking a question on the site. I was wondering if any one has any idea's for watertanks either home made or aftermarket for 2002 diesel prado. Went out this weekend to the favourite camp site and the river was low hence my question on water as I didn't have any. LOL.. Beer was the drink of the day and night.

Cutaway 50L poly between the rear arches behind the cargo barrier and flat 50L poly in the full length roof basket. If you want more then 40L rear floor poly that fits over the trans tunnel. That should have you getting pretty close to max gross wt!

Cool thanks will have to go the roof and the trans tunnel as I have draws in the back. Means I will have to put the roof rack back on. So the trans tunnel will be the go. That will keep the centre of gravity where its meant to be as well. Steep mountains and high centre of gravity bad combo. Cheers.

Hi, On our previous 90 series we had the poly tank between the wheel arches but in front of the barrier (behind second row seats) that worked well with drawers. May be an option.

A friend and i were under mine recently and there is a lot of room in front of the sub tank for a custom tank of around 35ltr capacity.
Would be good if i had a TIG and some alloy to give it a go. Is a wasted space.

          Kind Regards, Jason.

Have you been reading my mind Jason?? I plan to make use of the space around the chassis in future, with water or tools. Not only space saving but good to move some weight from the body to the chassis. It'll be part of the under body protection I have plans for, next year probably. It's also possible to weld ally with a mig, just need to buy some extra bits.

Yep you can weld aluminium with a mig Glen, but you need a Teflon guide sleeve in the wire feed to the handset, and different gas, straight Argon, not Argoshield.

The rollers in the wire feed mechanism are usually changed to a U style from the V style as these can deform the softer feed wire. If you don't want to buy them you can try backing of the feeding mechanism roller tensioner so it just has enough bite to push the wire through.

You can now buy disposable welding gas bottles in a reasonable size, if you don't want to go to the expense of renting one.

              Hope that helps mate.

              Cheers
              Ken

                Hahaha, must have been.
I was looking at an automatic pump and something like an airline fitting in the back left corner of the engine bay area to connect to.
Auto pumps i looked at turn on when pressure drops below a set value & back off when pressure is reached, so i can plug a hose in with an on/off nozzle when needed and when i disconnect the air line style fitting it just shuts off.

                Regards, Jason.
