  • Fitting Genuine Toyota H/D Towbar

Hey, picked up a towbar for the prado and went to fit it this arvo. From what i can see it look as if new holes need to be drilled to fit it on? maybe someone out there has the fitting instructions?? any help would be great!
    2000 GXL. 3.4lt V6, ARB Sahara Bar, IPF's, foglights, 2 inch lift (OME), Cooper ST's 265/75/16
GME 3600 UHF, Nokia CK-7W car Kit

Soon to have HD Towbar and Snorkel. Maybe even lockers!

Are you sure? There should be no need to drill any holes if it is an OEM piece. I just bought the ARB tow bar myself, I have installed quite a few in the past, non of the cars required drilling and most go into existing holes, perhaps replacing an OEM tow hook in the process.

Ok, can someone check there 90 series Toyota Heavy duty towbar and let me know the part number of the unit? I didn't think i would have had to drill some holes but nothing seems to line up.

      Thanks Heaps

Goanna, I fitted a Hayman Reece to my 90 when I first bought it but I considered the Toyota bar too, in the end went with the cheaper option. Both just bolt straight up to existing holes though you need to remove the recovery hooks first. The only thing is that earlier models (pre 2001) did not have captive nuts in the chassis where a couple of the bolts go. The H-R came with a couple of tapped plates with wire attached so you can hold them in place while you install the towbar. If yours is one without the nuts pm me as I may still have the blocks lying around in the bits bin and you can have them for the cost of the postage if you want them.

Here is some installation instructions: http://www.westfalia-automotive.de/file ... 691101.pdf

I have also downloaded original Toyota LC90 towbar installation instructions from somewhere, I canīt remember. I can send those to you (.pdf) if you want.

Thanks dieselman, the pics were great!! but im still confused, i have the right towbar, but i still don't have the right holes, the front hole is fine, but its the one at the rear, the bolt closest to the rear of the car that i don't have... going to go looking through some car yards and see what i can see. thanks again guys!!

                      Hi Matti,

Would you have any advise on how to hook up the trailer lights? Did Toyota come up with a wiring harness for the Prado LC90 series? The dealer here does not have a clue!

                      Regards.

I have Bosalīs wiring kit, made for LC90. Itīs Art.-Nr. is 006-838. It was quite easy to connect: pull wires inside to behind left backlight (you have to open left side plastic + remove rear bumper), there is a free plug for it. Just plug in.

I bought it from my local car-part-store. Cost about 40 €.
