  • Body Lift Help

    Hi All,

I'm in the process of lifting my 90 series RV6, and am in need of some help from anyone who has done this.
I have removed all the bolts and body blocks down one side of my bus.
My main question is: did you replace the blocks, or add to them with new ones.
I'm just not sure if I should throw the original ones away and replace with one solid piece, or if I should make the blocks and sit them on top of the original ones.

Obviously one piece would be ideal, but the original ones seat down well into the bracket on the chassis, and are flat on top where they meet the body bracket.
Because they are flat on top I thought it may be better to put a 2 in block on top rather than replace the whole thing with a 3 in block.

Hope the above makes sense and looking forward to hearing some feedback.

    Kind Regards,
    Luke

        Maverick / Hemi,

i've put this on hold for the moment, as i'm not sure which way to go.
i've been to'd that someone else added 1 inch blocke to the ones already there, and the steering was slight affected. everything else was fine except for some break lines that were release from there clips and they were fine.

i might just see how much my suspension upgrade gives me in lift first, then look at the body lift down the track.
if anyone else attempts it please let me know!

        regards,
        Luke

Hi Guys. I below information might help in your quest for a body lift. I was and am still keen to put a 1""-2"" body lift on, but I am quite happy with my current set up. Diesel OME in the front and HD OME in the rear.

"Hi Joel, I haven't had any trouble with the kits till now, but you would have to check with your insurance and your local laws regarding fitting body lifts and so. I got my local fabricator fitted the kit including the parts etc for around $1200 I think, it was like 3 years ago.

Lots of bits and pieces that you would have to look at, like you said yeah like clutch & brake lines, transmission lever, radiator fan, bumper mounting, electrical cables and all its best to talk to your local workshop or fabricator. And yeah it's a pretty big job especially on newer 4wds, and as long yours doesn't have airbags you'll be fine. 4wds with airbags shouldn't be fitted with body lift.

I'm running a set of 280/75/16 ETs which is close to 33" because of the deep lugs. For me this is the ideal size for this kinda car but you still can get away with 285/75/16 which is most mud terrain sizes available. For everyday driving I'm using 265/75/16 BFGs AT.

If body lift is not an option for you then stick with 265/75/16 mud terrain 2" suspension lift with HD coil (fit the front with turbo diesel coil they ended up much stiffer) and shocks and fit some coil spacers for that extra clearance (very cheap and easy to install compared to body lift)."

Will be very interested to how are you guys go, so keep us posted and happy 4wding.

I've got these on my unit and have covered some 130,000kms on them with some chipping and slicing thanks to some stony terrain, however I havn't had that "touchy" experience on the chassis. Most interesting. I'm now looking at replacing with the same size in either the BFGs ATs or Cooper MTX. I visited the local tyre shop last week for research and the guy behind the counter wouldn't believe I had these units on with no problems. My local constabulary has also clocked me at about 101%... as a favour when I had them installed. (Thanks Wayne!) I guess that also says something for the accuracy of the speedo under OEM spec.
                    cheers

Hi, I'm also interested in doing a body lift. I've done it before (2") on a Surf, and it wasn't too hard... I had to get rid of the plastic surrounding trim around the gear stick, the plastic trim around the fuel filler. The radiator had to be lowered and the tow bar / bullbar had to be lifted. Steering had to be lengthened. All the cables / lines were fine.

I'm keen to hear how you guys go with your body lifts, and hopefully I'll get around to doing it soon.

does your cruiser have airbags? That is the main reason I lost interest in a body lift, way to much hassle to get it engineered.

Yes, there is 2xbag. I donīt think itīs a problem. The body is mounted from 8 points and those nylon blocks are very hard stuff, they donīt bend/distort the airbag sensor function.

Are the petrol tanks mounted to the body or the chassis? Does anything need to be done with them, including the fuel filler pipes?
