Hi there croozza, yeah I had two 95 series and both had OME never had an issue with myn hitting on either of them. Bit of a mistery I suppose ?? I never had myn to the extreme like Declan trying to climb Mt Walker but not far off it, had it flexing plenty of times
Yes Declan would be interesting to see what ARB say about it, cant tell me they havnt heard of it before. Yours is probably the worst I have seen as far as really digging into that guard on the tank. As you have said the worry if removing the guard would be will it then hit into the tank itself and rip a hole in that ?? wouldnt like to take a chance. I would be putting it to ARB, you guys do all the R&D on all of your products then why is this happening ?? I would also take your pages in from Lcool as proof that yours is not the only one thats had the issue. Let us know what they say to you, will be I bet as you said "" no sir havnt had that problem before"" bit like my snorkel..........................Regards Steve M

Man, you really haven't had much luck with your suspension lift. There must be something different though. I've done a lot of offroading with maximum flex and haven't noticed an issue. Mine hasn't even touched the bash plate.

If you don't head over to Mannel Motors, maybe come 'round my place on the weekend and we'll do some comparisons. Also, I have the Sonoran Steel competition extended bump stops lying around if you'd like to check them out.

Mine is 5mm away from the chassis rail.
You may need to undo the bash plate bolts and see if you can slide the bash plate towards the chassis rail, I have a feeling the bash plate has been fiddled with at some point.

Croozza, I was more thinking of the distance between the inside edge of the bash plate and the driver's chassis rail.

Glen, maybe I should try and confirm that the bash plate isn't the issue before I take it up with Mannell Motors. Maybe I should come to yours one of these day. Do you have ramps?

I have had another look and I think croozza is right on the money. It looks like the the passenger side rear corner of the bash plate took quite a hit (probably on the same rock that hit the side step on Mt Walker) and pushed the whole bash plate into the path of the Uni-joint. Hmmm, I better rewatch the videos and listen out for bang shortly after hitting the side step...

All comments about ARB's R&D are formally withdrawn, for now.

You can see from the angle of the mounting brackets for the bash plate it has clearly been pushed towards to the tail shaft. How does this compare with the under side of your Prado, croozza/glen?

I might need to bring forward plans to remove the sub tank.

You want to remove it, and to leave off?

                      Whilst my car is parked normally, the gap between;
                      - the bash plate and the grease nipple is 60mm
                      - the bash plate lower edge and lower control arm bracket is 56mm
                      - the bash plate upper edge and lower control arm bracket is 35mm

Move the bash plate towards the chassis rail, you should be able to bend the brackets, this will move the bash plate outwards, there is plenty of space to do it.

Thanks for the measurements. I'll check it out tomorrow.

I've considered removing the sub tank. It hangs pretty low and doesn't have much to protect it. On the other hand the transmission and transfer case have chassis cross members hanging quite a bit lower that offer some level of protection.

I'll see how easily it can be done without removing the bash plate but I suspect it will have to come off to do it properly.

Yeah take it off to straighten it.
I'd like to lift my sub tank one day, but before you can do that you'll need to get a body lift

I dropped the bash plate after work today and did a bit of panel beating.

When I got the Prado back up on the ramps there appeared to be plenty of clearance. This time I didn't bother putting the blocks under ramps so in theory there was still about 3" of travel left in the rear axle. Hopefully there's enough clearance to avoid contact again.

Hope you cleaned up the exposed metal and painted it. Rust moves in very quick on exposed and damaged metal.
