Cheers Auss. Think I will search around and check out some other oil. Funny you say that now I think about it and Im goind back 20 years I used GTX when it was around (dont know if it still is ??) as I remember my sisters corolla sludging up (but must admit she was very slack with servicing) and when I did eventually say to her give me some $$ so I can get the stuff for you I always used castrol and when I use to dump the oil I use to think jees this oil is thick but put it down to lack of changes. It may have been a mix of slack servicing and the type of oil that also sludged up quickly. Anyway Ill make sure next oil change to be honest might just use the genuine stuff from Toyota. I get is trade price anyway. Might put a flush through it as well to get rid of the magnatec (not that I use the flush's anymore) Im not convinced this flushing stuff is totally drained from the system. Oil obviously must sit in galleries and places so this stuff is trapped and my contaminate the new oil ?? What do you think of that ?? Do you reckon its possible that the flushing stuff is stll present even though I drain it over night ?? And would it be doing harm mixing with the new oil for the next 7k ?? Cheers Steve

Dont use the flush Steve, all the sludge will fall into the sump and get sucked up in the oil pickup tube, you will then loose all oil pressure and kill the motor, instead, use a higher quality oil and change it and the filter every 3 thou, for 5 oil changes (total 15 thou), this will get any sludge out of the engine. I may cost a bit to do, but it will save you more in the end.

I always thought it went dark because it was doing its job cleaning the engine. Thought that was the idea of it to go dark which is the cleaning agent........Cheers Steve

I'll think you'll find that the Totota oil you buy in the black container will be a mineral based oil. Mechanics I have spoken to from different dealerships say at best the manufacturers oil will be a semi synthetic. It's all to do with cost. I used to take my own oil to the dealership to be used in the change (Mobil 1 at the time)
