Back to square one. Had the tailshaft ballanced & at 90km plus, tha vibration appeared again, i think even worse. I rang & spoke to the shop, that are going to recheck it for me but I'm not confident. Pulled it back out & ran on the front diff, vibration gone. Any further thoughs.

So id say its something to do with the rear drive .that is from inside the transfercase to the rear wheels
have a wiggle of the transfercase output shaft flange and the diff input flange
Then maybe ask the shaft balancing joint to put it up on there hoist and drive it stationary to that speed

I have checked both output shaft from the transfer case & input shaft in rear diff. Both have no movement & seem fine. I just drove it back to work, 4 hr trip, with the rear tailshaft removed & I didn't get any vibration at all, even when doing over 110. I am taking it back to the balancers on Friday, maybe that will shed some more light on th situation. Checked all wheel bearing previous, vibration should be there all the time, even when the shaft removed if it was a bearing, you would think?

            Not necessarily.

What condition are the rear control arm and panhard bushes in?
Have you drained the rear axle oil and checked for particles?
Do you have any oil weeping over the rear brake shields/axle ends (usually right side)?
Are the rear top shock mounts ok?

When you installed the new uni-joints, did you knock the caps in with a hammer and drift, or clamp them in a vice? Did the new joints swivel completely freely after you installed them? I've had a new uni-joint distort ever so slightly when I clamped it in a vice. I thought it was a little bit stiff but didn't think it would be a problem, except it was and caused some vibration. I took the joint out and spread it a tiny bit (maybe 2mm) which freed up the movement and the vibration was cured.

Thanks Fridayman, interesting you mention the uni's. Firstly i have had the suspenion components check & all looked ok. Haven't checked the oil & have no leaks to speak off. I know the rear shocks need replacing but before i go replacing hundreds of dollars on suspention parts i want to double check the obvious things. When i installed the uni's, the single, diff end, was a tight fit. I put them in with a press & had to put a bit more pressure into it just to get the circlips in. It was allot tighter in the movement than the others, but only in one direction. I might have another look at that one. I also found a post on another 4x4 forum about vibration in a Prado. Turns out it was worn control arm bushes letting the diff roll foreword. I will concentrate on both.
