  • Auto transmission and transfer box

New to 4wd and brought a 99 vx Prado it has a wining noise when put into gear and was told it maybe converter or trans oil pump
Brought a second hand transmision from a 2001 Prado but found out it wasn't electronic transfer case
Question to the forum is do I need to change over the whole transfer case or can I just swap the end cover that holds the electronic parts

put your complete old transfercase in.. or just fit the complete new one as is.... only thing if you do that is pretty sure you will loose you center diff lock light in the dash. (99% sure of that)

its not possible to change just the rear housing

I was looking at just replacing the rear cover plate that holds the electronic and mechanical section of the diff lock
I think I need a break down drawing of the box to see what parts are there
I was hoping to change both the auto and transfer box as it has around 1/3 of the use as mine

Here's a technical document, which may or may not help:

Also, I've posted some photos of the internals of the transfer case, over on this thread:

Thanks Glen Looks like I have to change the transfer case
I pulled them apart last night and the manual case has 2 selector shafts and the electronic one has only 1 inside
So I am putting my original transfer case onto the new auto box
But all good learning about my new toy
