  • Driveline noise

    Hi team,
Would appreciate some feedback if anyone has had this issue.
I have a 1999 (early) 3.4 Auto Prado with 281,000km on the clock.

Over the last 6 months I have noticed an intermittent "chirping" or "squeaking" noise from under the car.
Generally it has gone away after some time driving but now has become constant.
It has seemed to happen on deceleration only while traveling 50-60 KmHr, but tend now to be over a wider speed variance.
I have also noticed it doesn't happen if the care is put into neutral while driving, and the noise goes up in "frequency" when dropped back into 2nd from Drive.

    Any ideas, please

brake pads worn ? check oil in transfer case ? uni joints would still be turning with car in gear or in neutral , cant see it being those.

Check the colour of your Auto Transmission fluid, might need to be replaced, if so do that asap.
Hopefully not anything else in there

I'd take a look at uni joints. Check for slop/play in them.

What was the end result of the noise?

I'll take the punt on worn Uni's that are as dry as a bone. Shifting into neutral would take some load off which may mean less/no squeaking. They'd have to be Dryer than Mars to be squeaking audibly though, which would also mean they'd be wearing prematurely at a good rate.
