Won`t disengage out of FWD at all

Got a Problem were my FWD won`t disengage back to AWD and the light stays on. It definatly stuck in FWD
What could be the prob?, its a 98 V6 Auto

Ive had that happen a bit, the toyota manual even talks about it. Try going forward and then reverse and what i do is tap the brakes in reverse and also keep the wheel straight. Also try moving the gear lever in and out a few times. As it might have an electric switch that operates a shift fork that is sticking or something arather.
If that doesnt fix it you will need to drop the front propshaft until you get it sorted.
Ive never taken the transfer case apart so i cant comment on what might be happening in there
