Malfunction Indicator light

Morning All,

I own a 2001TX turbo diesel. Just had the head, water pump and timing belts replaced and its all going really well. However, last night, when I switched off the engine the malfunction indicator light came on and started blinking, and it is still blinking away this morning. I started the car and it started immediately and sounds fine. The light goes out when the engine is running. When I stop the motor the malfunction light comes back on and resumes its blinking. Before I call the boys to haul it off to the workshop does anybody have any ideas as to the problem or fix?

Pull he ECU fuse out for about a minute, then put it back in. That might clear the fault.

That's very strange that it flashes with the ign off ... There negative triggered ie one side of the mil globe is switched ign power and the other side goes to the ECU and that is a neg signal so even if the ECU is throwing out a code it shouldn't light up as the 12v shouldn't have power with the ign off

Thanks croozza - pulled the ECU fuse and left it out for a few minutes. Put it back in and took the car for a drive. No problem.

scottkz - you're probably right but I've got no clue when it comes to anything electrical - changing light bulbs is about my level of expertise....

Yeah some electrical is a bit more that entry level stuff!
