  • Interior lighting wiring question

    Hi all,

I'm hoping someone out there can help me. I have a 97 VX Grande that I have installed an aftermarket alarm/immobilizer in. I have connected all the wiring from this unit to the locking etc. but not the lighting wires. Since I put it in the interior lights do not work so the alarm must be over riding the lights. The wiring instructions for the alarm say that it needs to be connected to the following wires -

    1) Interior light output wire
    2) Door trigger (+)
    3) Door TRIGGER (-)

Can anybody tell me where I will find these wires so I can get the interior lights working again. It's a pain not having these working at night.

    Thanks.

If you haven't yet touched the interior light wiring why aren't the interior lights
    working, fuse blown maybe?

The (+) (-) will be the door switch, I assume the interior light output is to turn the
light on when the alarm is turned off ie night time courtesy light, not sure about
the output wire without see the actual wiring diagram?

The trigger wires, if your doors are wired separately to a body ECU then you'll need
to either connect to the interior light itself or if it has a door ajar lamp in the dash
you could use that. Else you will need to common through diodes to the alarm.

If all the doors are connected together then any one of the door switches will do.

To test if doors are common, remove driver side door switch, close the switch them open another door
and see if the earth appears on the wire running to the lamp.

    Cheers
    Leigh

      Thanks for the reply Leigh.
I haven't touched the lights at all - hence why I'm confused by them not working. I have checked the fuses and they are fine. I will try and connect to the drivers door switch, and see what happens. I was hoping not to have to touch the lights - but the wife's not happy not having lights.

You have to get the lights working BEFORE you start changing anything otherwise you will have to work on the possibility that the changes you make may be stopping the lights from working, as well as the original problem. You will start with one problem and run the posibility of having two. Ken.

Don't forget the interior lights are negative switched so will not have a "Door Trigger (+)" signal.
Does either of the interior lights work when you select "ON" rather than "DOOR" on them?
If not then you have power supply/wiring fault (or blown globes).

RE the Alarm Instructions, does the Alarm kit have its own door sensors/switches or is it using the standard door light switches to detect when a door is opening?
It may be that the "Door Trigger + or - is for door open sensing not Interior light, if that is the case then the "Interior light output wire" will switch the interior lights on and will need to be a - ve (ground) signal.

            Simple lol

Hi I have a similar problem. When removing the drivers side globe it shorted. As such the car does not register that the door has been opened and auto-locks after a period of time. The light does not also work
I had an electrician try and resolve but could not find it - could it be an ECU that has shorted - does anyone know where the drivers side vanity light connects too?
