Hi prado lovers
What I'm chasing is info (or contacts for clued up people) about the 1KZTE 3L TD engine, found in 90 series and early 120 series prado's.
I sucked mud through my 90 series engine a few months back (clever I know) and have had to clean out the intake tubes, turbo, intercooler, intake manifold, fitted a new head, new glow plugs, rings, bearings, head gasket, hoaned the cylinders and got the injectors serviced (new nozzles, etc). Since the rebuild it is a pig to start when cold, and blows smoke and misses like you wouldn't believe when cold from idle up to about 1200 - 1300 rpm.
Once engine is up to temp, no probs at all ??????????
We've done compression tests, taken the injectors back to get re-tested, checked the fuel pump timing, checked out all the intake system for blockages, checked all electrical connectors are ok.
We've done about 12000 k's since rebuild with this being our only thorn.
We believe it may be a fuel pump issue but aren't sure and neither is anyone around here who claims to be a mechanic. It also seems wierd that it would be the fuel pump, given that it was only removed during rebuild then refitted??
Most diesels have mechanically controlled fuel pumps, but not the prado!! Toyota in their wisdom made them electrically controlled, so finding a cluey person is difficult to say the least!!!
Our local dealer simply looked blankly in reply to any of my questions. :?
If anyone has had similar probs or has any info i would appreciate it and then some!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and don't worry.................................I ordered a snorkel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
