  • Prado TX 95 series 1KZ-TE GLOW PLUG ISSUE.

    Hi all.

Wondering if anyone has had similar problems.
My Prado struggles to start on cold mornings , I have replaced the genuine toyota glow plugs ( the ones with the little nipple on the end) as 3 of them weren't working, with genuine NGK 11V glow plugs . Starting is still hard on cold mornings. All of the electrics such as power and earth are good . the only think that does'nt make any sense is the fact that the timer only stays on for about a second regardless of outside temp.
Is there a outside temp sensor that determines how long the glow plugs should stay on, or is it controlled in the ecu? Is there a way of checking this circuit?
    Any info greatly appreciated.

    Regards Bryan.

You might find that it's not actually the glow circuit .... It could be a small amount of air getting into the system
The glow plugs stay on for about 1 min usually even though the light goes out
It's all controlled by the ECU and the engine temp sensor not the the one for the dash

Simple check is to remove the relay and put a thick wire between the 2 large terminals then see how it starts cold if it dose the same thing then it's probly not the glo circuit

You haven't got air in your fuel system, do you?

I'd suggest priming the system at the filter to make sure there's no air (instructions for this are in the vehicle owners manual) and visually check all the high-pressure fuel connections around the injectors and injector pump for leaks (might be best to check carefully while the engine's running because if it's leaking, that's when it will leak - remember to take your neck tie off before you lean over a running engine!).

        Thanks scottkz,

sorry for the late reply, been in the bush for a while . tried what you said with bridging the wires but same problem still.
cant see any leaks any where , will try and bleed the fuel system .

        thanks again , bryan
