  • iKD-Ftv Engine problems.

My Prado is fitted with the problematic 1KD -FTV engine. Now the engine would start with one kick. It would idle nicely for a while and then it would idle rough with black smoke. It would then lose all throttle response. I had the engine scanned and found no fault code. But if I disconnected the turbo motor, it would rev up and run normally. with less power. My mechanics were stumped. What could cause this no throttle response problem? It is a dead buffalo now.

Id be looking at the turbo itself

To me its like it starts fine but hasnt got enough flow for the intake air
Sounds silly but have a look to see if its sucked a rag up, iv had that before
Sounds to me like its got a blockage making the air/fuel too rich

I removed the turbo and had it checked by the turbo shop. It was reported good. I reinstalled it and no throttle response problem remained. Please note that the engine ran normally if the turbo vent control motor was disconnected, though with lack of power (no black smoke). Could the throttle body be faulty?
