Snorkel on 90 Series Diesel

I have a 2002 90 series diesel and recently bought a safari snorkel.

For the life of me I can't understand why it has been designed with so many bends!

Has anyone on the forum ever fitted this (or any other) snorkel to a Diesel 90 series and managed to cut a new hole in the inner guard to either eliminate (or minimise) the sharp bends that the safari snorkel has?

Just returned from being away and was greeted by your post. May I say thanks from the outset. Your build pics were very informative and very clear. Its nice to know that there are folks out there who like to share their experiences with others.
