Found a unichip piggyback ecu (plug and play) to suit the 4runner and tacoma that have the same 3.4L v6 as the prado. They run upto five different maps you can select between and are only around $550 making them alot cheaper then there australian type. Getting one isn't a drama as i have a relative that lives there that i am visiting soon. Does anyone know if they use the same ecu and will it simply plug straight into my ecu as it would the 4runner. My prado is a july 1999 gxl 3.4L V6. Really loving this forum...

Hi Ken,
I have also put pacemaker extractors on and a 2.5 inch exhaust out to the rear. Just putting the new exhaust on helped a lot and I think it was worth the money. All up the exhaust cost me about a grand but I did most of it myself. The chip only went on 2 weeks ago and I think it has really made the car run smoother and seems to have more power throughout the entire rev range. But I am still to put a entire tank of fuel through. I think the best thing about the chip was the power gain from 78.6 awkw to 94.1 awkw. Not a bad 19% power upgrade. I can not comment on if I am getting better fuel economy as I have been having a bit of fun with new burbs. I can post up the dyno map if you want to see the difference.

I also have the Pacemaker extractors and 2.5 inch exhaust - but as I wanted more low down torque I chose not to have the pipes mandrel bent. The combination of the snorkel, unifilter, extractors, exhaust and chip gave me a significant boost in power up to 100awkw. I can't remember all the details as I had this done about 5 years. I can say that depending on how you drive the car will depend on your fuel economy - I know that this is a very obvious statement but when you have it done and you put your foot down and realise how much extra power you have you can't help but enjoy it
. The off road performance is sensational with the power coming in just when you need it. The best fuel economy I have managed to get was a trip to Sydney where I got about 11 ltrs to the 100 k.

I went a bit further and added a TRD blower as well as the Pacemaker extractors and Unichip.
exhaust wise I replaced up to & including the muffler. From there back is the original system.
This results in 131 awkw and lots of low down torque
Fuel economy wise I get 15 l/100K on trips, cruising any where between 80 to 110 km/hr fully loaded with 265/75 MTR's.
Towing a camper or the boat I get 19l/100km, again constant from 80 -110 km/hr
The blower is great but extractors and Unichip give a good return for the dollars.

hi mix90, you need to check that the plug and play has the same connecters to the ecu because toyota in its wisdom changed the connecters ,3 rows in the plugs ,and 4 rows aswell so make sure before you buy i got a trd ecu for mine and it would not fit,its the same setup as leethals.. cheers rossy.99 snowy v6,bilsteins , pedders springs std height, polyair bags, bf goodrich at 265/70/16, daul batteries, safari snorkel, modified exhaust & extractors, rallie 4000s, gme tx472s uhf, 12v to rear ,40l ingel & slide ,tinted windows, rhino racks, electric brakes, trd supercharger, alpine cd & ipod, pp sticker.

Thanks for the fast response mate.
As for the Dyno charts, well I’m sure that they would be interesting to see by the people following this thread.
Looks like I’ll have to add fitting a new exhaust system to the growing list of work to be done, and believe me it’s a bloody long list, sigh…….
Be interested to see your fuel burn comparison, sounds like it could be better, ie better grams per kilowatt hour, if it is actually more efficient now,. Or has it just unleashed more of the available power that Toyota wouldn’t let you use ? In that case your gr/Kw/Hr will be the same.
Just have to watch the right foot now I guess, and see if you can get a fair comparison
Most of the quoted 2 grand was parts, about 900 for the headers, 400 for the free flowing cat and 300 for the muffler, plus some pipe etc. So yeah I could save by doing it myself.
Did you take you old pipes down to the shop to be used as a template?
That would be the only hassle as far as I can see, pipes not lining up, and tripping back and forth to get it to fit correctly. When I can drive it I’m going to get a firm quote, not a guesstimate.
Cheers

Hi Ken.
Looks like I am not getting as good as Leethal's power but I will need to save up a bit more before I put a blower on. Sounds like a lot of fun though Leethal. Filled up tonight and even with all the 4x4ing we did on the weekend and the bit of fun I have been having pulling people off at the lights the fuel economy is 15L/100km. Ill try and take it a bit easier this tank and see what happens. I bought the headers for $400 from a exhaust importer here in Vic and the exhaust was used as a template.
