  • Fuel consumption... Petrol 90 series only

    Hi all,
I know there are other spots for fuel consumption but I thought it would be good to compare apples with apples so only 90 series Petrol Prados hey
Topic title changed to something that makes more sense. <mod>

2.7L petrol, 265/75 bfg MT, 2" lift, rola racks.

out of town loaded 13L/100k I have had it down to 12L/100k unloaded.

out of town in hill terrain with 1T of camper on the back 15L/100k

in town gets between 13-15L/100k with lots of stop/start driving.

        Sand/mud/heavy 4x4ing 4x4ing 14-16L/100k.

tried premium which gives me a very minor increase in range (20ks from a tank) which doesnt cover the extra cost.

if they made a gas kit for the 2.7 (and the valve seats didnt recess at a sniff of it) it would have one on it. in fact, considering trading in on a v6 gxl with gas...

RV6 petrol manual with GXL wheels and BFG's

Relatively unladen except me and wife on trip to Melbourne from Brisbane, best economy over about 800km was 10.9L/100km using premium fuel and taking into account fuel transfer and wheel dimension size effect on speedo, and more importantly, sitting below 100km/hr. Jumps up a L or two on the highway once you go over 100km.hr.

On the beach to Fraser and back and Moreton etc, about 14 - 15l/100kmk. Any time on low range puts can put that out another L or two. Just got back from Moreton two days ago and the only time needed low was leaving the barge - about 10m, haven't worked out fuel yet, will be interesting though cause I spent most time in High range.

Some stats from my Prado (3.4L Petrol) Grande VX Auto. It has BFG 265/75 AT, 40lb preasure in the tyres, K&N filter and using Lucas Fuel additive.

            13.613
            14.690
            11.837
            13.843
            15.424

Varies between city and highway which is expected

Just did a run down to Alice Springs and the rock. 3.4 litre manual GXL 145000kms. 1365kms on 150 litres or close enough to 11 litres per 100km. Wanted to avoid filling up at remote servos so locked the cruise control on 105kmph. 5 people plus camping gear and fridge. Did Alice to Alice on a tank including Ayers Rock, Ulga's, Kings Canyon, then on the rough corrugted sandy Mereenie Loop into Glen Helen gorge and west Mcdonnell's. Saw fuel at Curtain Springs at $2.18 for unleaded and $2.40 for diesel so was glad to make back to Alice at $1.69. We have lived in the NT for 6 months and have only ever had to buy fuel in Darwin Katherine or Alice Springs and have done over 20000kms. Long range tanks certainly pay off when remote fuel is 50 cents a litre dearer than town. We even got fuel at Katherine yesterday for $1.49 with coles dockets which is cheaper than Darwin!

Re: Fuel consumption... Petrol 90 series only

Last weekend Zo and I headed up to LCMP with a mates Ozzie OffRoad Camper trailer and I just wanted to check the fuel figures from the drive.

                    Vehicle,
                    V6 3.4l Auto @ 176000 k's
                    Cooper ST's 265/75r16
roofracks, snorkel, dual battery, fridge and shelves in the back.

                    Trailer,
Fully loaded with 20l of petrol, 2 x gas cylinders and 160l of water (I had to fill a wading pool for the wife... ie, all the water).

From BNE to Kilcoy is half highway and half winding, hilly country roads.

Filled up at Kilcoy with 23.55l of petrol, travelled 123 k's... therefore 19.15l/100k's.

Does that sound about right for the conditions?
                    Cheers, Leon

Re: Fuel consumption... Petrol 90 series only

Went down south for the long weekend. Had 4 adults with a bootload of gear, front and rear A/C on the whole time and fridge loaded. Did 860kms on 109L of fuel, so around 12.7l/100kms. It was around 600kms of highway and then 250kms of general driving about visiting places. Happy with the results considering the vehicle, see below...
'98 Grande V6 - ARB Sahara bar, IPF HID spotties, ARB compressor, GME UHF, OME Sport suspension, 265/75 MT ATZ 4 Ribs, steel rock sliders, Safari snorkel, Tigerz11 winch, rear ARB locker, Rhino platform rack.

Opposite driving situation here than VL400 ops:

Just put my Pre Xmas fuel stats in to the spreadsheet...
Towing a C/T up the range from Kilcoy to LCMP + 3 days of low range 4wd'ing then 24 days parked in the driveway and then a week of city driving (read: being in a hurry too )

                        So two fills (35.05lt + 115.20lt) total: 150.25lt over 668k's = 22.49lt/100k's
                        Cheers, Leon

Re: Fuel consumption... Petrol 90 series only

                          Hi Newbie here :?

I am new to the Prado ownership ranks.
I was a little worried about fuel consumption before I bought a Prado (or any 4WD for that matter) however, I am ok with figures ranging from 12-15 L/100km for a stock 3.4 auto with no load in 50/50 conditions.
I am a little concerned when after filling the 90 litre tank (with 72L after the light came on, that I have already used up 1/4 of the tank and only just hit 100km. I am no lead foot and have been very cautious but if the tank and guage are accurately calibrated, then I am expecting that this tank full will average out at 20L/100km which is horrific.

This might not be the right thread to bring it up, but does the computer and auto transmission 'learn' from the driver, and can I reset it back to factory settings so it can learn my drving styles ? Can it be done without disconnecting the battery, because if I do that I will have to enter a pin into the Radio, and I don't have it (so wanting to avoid that little annoyance).

                          cheers for any help/advice ops:
                          David

I'm fairly new to the Prado world. Got my Prado end of December, and over the past 5,000 km I had an average consumption of 13.33 l/100km (7.5 km/l). It was mostly highway driving but some of the tanks had a fair bit of town driving as well.

13ish lts... that's about right for what I was getting........ b4 all the extras went on
If it's ALL h/way driving you could probably expect a little better but with around town as well it sounds right.
But it's only lifted to 15ish with all the extra weight and meatier tyres.
