  • V8 swap into 95 Series V6 ??

There is a possibility that I can get an SC400 Lexus - fitted with the 1UZ-FE 4 litre V8 - for a good price

Has anyone here attempted a swap like this before ? Or would it be a total woftam ? I would have thought that most of the Lexus 4.7l stuff would fit the 4l motor as well ?

    Any advice appreciated......

I reckon there is a thread on the forum where a guy from South Africa dropped a V8 into his 90 series, I seem to recall it was from a Lexus but not sure.

    Cheers Andrew

Lexus V8 ... Ignore the stupid problems he had .... He didn't use the factory Lexus box!! Why I don't know ? Search for 185 surf V8 conversion .... There the same chassis as a 90, Iv put 2 1uzs into hiluxes ... It takes 6 wires to have it running then about another 10 to finish it off.
Lexus auto will bolt up to any 4spd transfercase , motor stays in the V6 spot then custom mounts , pretty easy 2 weekends if you know what your doing

thanks heaps Andrew/Scott - that thread had some really interesting reading, but old mate looked to have lost his appetite for the whole thing by the end ? I will have a look around for the 185 Surf conversions as well. I wonder if those guys in NZ are still doing these conversions ?

I have swapped motors a few times over the years - nothing fancy, upgraded an old 220 to a 250 2V in an XB van back in the mid-80's - that was fun replaced a Series 1 V6 with a Series 2 in the old family battlewagon VN a few years ago - again a pretty easy job. At the moment, there is also a Series 3 XJ6 sitting in the carport that is just about to score a 5.7 LS1 conversion........so playing with motor conversions is not entirely foreign. Not having done anything with a transfer case before - that might be a bit of a challenge. Also the Prado is in pretty good nick and I really don't need to bin the V6.......but the possibility of getting this SC400 for basically SFA is just too attractive an option to not check out fully.......

Scott - when you did the 1UZ into the Lux's - I guess you used all the stock V8 ECU etc ?? I have a good exhaust place that can build custom headers and also a good radiator dude who can do whatever is needed as far as cooling is concerned. Engine mounts.....might need some more exploration.

            cheers

              Yep stock V8 ecu,
To bolt the transfer up BASSICLY you cut down the output shaft of the Lexus box screw the spd sensor on and bolt it up....
V6 rad is more than up to the task , some Lexus have the oil driven fan .... Ditch that set up and get 100 series cruiser idler pullys
Iv only done the conversion to hiluxes up to 96 then the chassis changed, after 96 there was a ton more room exhaust headers and other stuff
The fact that you can get the whole car will make it a much nicer job.... Last conversion I did was a C@$T !!! The motor was from a particular model that there were no wiring diagrams at all, similar but not exact
There a great engine very powerful (190kw) very cheap for parts, 100series hS the same motor variant so lots of knowledge

OK cool thanks again for the advice, much appreciated. I can see that little Lexus parked on the street as I am typing this knowing that there is a good V8 sitting under the bonnet doing nothing - is frustrating ! Will see how this pans out - I reckon that rig will be in my backyard inside a month

Well don't pay more than 1500 as that's all a half cut is worth these days
