Its underneath the transmission oil pan towards the rear - 14mm bolt. The filler is the dipstick tube. Also, when buying oil dont believe the books at your local auto parts store when it says it takes 1.5L to fill - mine has always taken around 5L.

You can probably get away with 1.5lt or 2lts depends how bad the fluid looks. The 5lt is a complete drain but you can do just a half. Most do a complete change (side of caution, fair enough). I usally drop about 2.5lt each time and had now problems. Suppose its like a big service or a small service.

i will check it out the mechanic said make sure I get teh fluid changed at next service. If I remove the bolt will all of the 5ltrs come out or about 2ltrs? Also I only have an adjustable spanner on me is there enough room for that?

Is this the drainer nut ?

Yeah it looks like the drain nut, if thats the gearbox pan then yes it is. Removing it drops 4-5L of fluid on my prado - can always not wait for the fluid to stop flowing and replace the drain bolt. Would then just top up with the amount you removed, but may as well change as much of the fluid as possible if your going to the effort.
