  • Towing with a 90 series

So we have lashed out and got ourselves a Jayco Eagle, tare weight 910 kgs, GVM around 1200 kgs I think,
and I expect she'll be loaded to the GVM with chairs, tables and general camperphernalia.

The dear old Prado ( 3.4litre V6 petrol GXL ) is now 16 years old with 210K on the clock and I don't want to break the car.
I've been towing a full loaded box trailer weighing 700 kgs for many years and the car pulls that with ease of course.

Yes we have a good quality electric brake controller fitted to the car.

My question is - does anyone else here tow a similar load and how fast do you generally drive on the freeway.
I know it will barrel along at 100 km/h, but for how long?

What extra maintenance should I do to help ensure trouble free towing? Should I go to 5,000 km oil changes?

PS I'm a good DIY'er so I can carry out pretty much any extra maintenance myself. I'm thinking a full cooling system
hose kit might be in order, last trip we destroyed the radiator cap. ( easy fix that one )

I have a roughly 2,000 kg boat that I tow. When I take it on the freeway, I tend to sit on 80 km/h. With the load you are talking about, I would think 90 to 100 km/h would be safe and comfortable.
