    Re: FEWER POSTS

Hi Fellas. Great site. I brought a 90 series 'cause I "needed" one. It does all I require of it and doesn't look too naff. I would have preferred the last of the old trooper looking ones with 1KZ-TE engine but they are getting pretty scarce over here in NZ in good nick. It would have also been hard getting that one past her indoor (going backward in years - yardy yardy - aw you fellas know). Buying a 2 - 3 year old one around here would have the locals snarling at your Softroad Tar Seal Tractor. A 1996 diesel model will set you back around 19k - 21k over here at present. Not much interest in petrol models unless you count the yuppies in the cities. I don't think that the 90's will die out - they will just keep evolving or getting rebuilt - great commonality of parts with other Toyotas. Cheers.

      Re: FEWER POSTS

My 2nd hand 90 series is in great condition, low km's, serviced every 5000k's since new and came with a few accessories inc. bullbar and a professionally built rear drawer/fridge slider/water tank setup inc. cargo barrier (paid $15k). I plan to put more stuff on/in it yet and will soon be changing over the nearly worn out Cooper ATR's with BF Goodrich ATR's or MTR's. I can afford to do that because I didn't spend all my money on a 120 series in comparable condition.

I'm sure the 120 is "nicer" in many ways... I'm sure I'd be less inclined to go bush in a "nicer" vehicle, particularly one that is majority stock standard 'cause I couldn't afford to do anything much to it... but that's just me. Maybe when I have more $ than sense.

Don't get me wrong I'd have one (even maybe a 150 series) in a moment. But budget wise I reckon the 90 series gets me and my family out there and is better than not going bush at all.

To be perfectly honest I think nearly all 4WD manufacturers are heading down the wrong path... we'll be too scared to go on trips like the CSR or the Cape because the truck would have to be shipped back to a major metro area to have fixed the electronic, flux capacitor controlled button that lets each wheel know what the other is doing and relays that back via satellite to the physics nerve centre computer so that the car can make traction adjustments because the poor mechanic that can get a 90 series or 80 series or GU/GQ back up and running in a couple of days hasn't a hope in hell of fixing the control system hidden behind that little button on the dash.

        Re: FEWER POSTS

        Hey Boz,
Remember, even the 90 series has EFI, and ABS was an option. So they have their fair share of electronics (that can go wrong) too...

It's been a long time since carbys !

          Re: FEWER POSTS

Had my 2002 TD GXL since new and 195000 km. There are a couple of the things that keep me away from moving upto a newer model.

Firstly it is very easy to get accessories for and fitted to the truck. It is a simple body shape with a gutter roof.

The tow bar design, although not sexy, it is very strong have seen the unit on a 120 snap.

The interior is simple and comfortable.

The shear expense of setting up a new tourer is scary and a lot of what I have on the old truck can't be put on a 120 or 150 series.

So I guess I'll just drive it into the ground, whenver that might happen and keep checking sites like this for more hints and tips for my truck.
