  • Mystery cable?

Had the centre console out of the car today while I was moving the UHF configuration. Needed to get to the excess cable for the aerial which was looped under the console.

While I was there I noticed this massive loop of softish rubber cable.

As far as I can tell it runs length ways along the car but how far I couldn't see.

Any clues as to what it might be?
    Cheers, Leon

Looks like the same size wire for trailer lights and stuff. But ejector seat sounds more fun!

pretty sure it's not a standard thing.
my guess is for electric brakes. maybe the sence wire or the wire that goes to the trailer plug to activate the trailer brakes.

Snaga did you buy the vehicle new or second hand? Also when you look at the end of the cable how many cores are there and what sort of configuration. Can you trace where it goes to from here?

To me it looks a little heavy duty for the sence wire for the electric brakes but you never know what some people will do. Looks about coaxial size so if it is second had did the previous owner run an aerial out the rear of the vehicle?

Could have been for a CD stacker, ive got a simular cable running down the back as well. My cables are a little rubbery as well, thats my guess.

its the CD stacker cable, i ended up yanking mine out when i put a new head unit in. Seems Mr Toyota must use the same cable that is used for running stackers in the boot of other vehicles, so its a bit long to run to the front seat.

Thanks for all the ideas guys...
CD stacker sounds like a fair call... It's under the passenger seat and all I can see is a cable from the front of the car and then down into the carpet at the rear end of the console.
Bought 2nd hand but I doubt the previous owners did anything to the car at all... most likely a soccer mums car before I acquired it

                    Re: Mystery cable?

Way too long to be wiring for stacker in a grande, if its a GXL or lower spec then they didnt come with stacker and the head unit didnt have the buttons to control a stacker so might be for some thing else ?? I had a 97 VX grande with stacker under seat and when I removed the console to fit UHF that cable was never there, I have got 01 grande now but the stacker is in the head unit itself.I have again removed the console to fit UHF and no wiring like that there but this one I have now is diesel. Going by the pics it looks like its part of toyotas wiring loom or is it just taped up to the other wiring ?? Regards Steve M

And those other wires in the pick (all the single ones) I didnt have them either unless they are what you have put in or previous owner ?? Regards Steve

The black with blue tape cables are for the rear AC control that's in the back of the console for the middle row passengers to use.
The single ones on the RHS of the image... they're for the compressor and rear locker
