Hi fellas. KZJ95R just got failed for warrant of fitness on "play in right hand inner steering rod pivot". The exploded view in the manual is bloody useless and the instructions don't include this repair - consequently I can't figure out if the inner end of the tie rod (threaded) Screws into a replacable inner pivot-type joint (rack end?) which in turn is able to be separated from the steering rack without removing the entire rack and pinion from the vehicle. Any help much appreciated as I don't wish to strip this down until I have the replacement parts (I have no spare vehicle to use whilst the Prado is in bits). Cheers, Derb.

It is a replaceable part, it costs between $30-$60 depending on where you source it, you shouldn't have to remove the rack. I've had mine replaced a few times (although I left the fitting to my mechanic), make sure you get a quality part, because the cheap ones just don't last. Hi Taresk. Just brought the rod ends today. Genuine Toyota $80-00 + GST each. BNT were $93-80 inc for two and they had them in stock (unlike the toyota dealer). P/No. TOY HILUX LAND SR-3560. Is also a good time to replace the rack boots. You really need a hoist (to give you clearance for the waterpipes), 2 bloody big crescents, a 42mm open ended spanner, a 30mm open ended spanner, 2 lengths of water pipe (for the spanners) 19mm 1/2 drive socket and ratchet (for the tie rod end nut and puller), pliers, hammer, small cold chisel (for the lock washer tabs), Tie rod end puller, tools to remove rack boots, patience, beer and a good mate. Thought I would have a look at my tie rods the other day
. No play in them just a very bent bolt that goes into the steering arm (?) on the wheel. Its bent to about 30 degrees :shock: . The driver side is only slightly bent. Might be a silly question but what sort of driving would cause this?? Looks like original tie rods.

hey guys,
I'm trying to diagnose a strange and annoying problem with the steering of my car. I thought it was wheel alignment, but it is not (since 2 alignment later, I still have the same issue). The steering wheel feels very light and it has a tendency to pull slightly left or right over uneven tarmac surface. I suspect the problem may lie in the steering.
