  • dual battery mount question

    Hi

does anybody here happend to have a picture of a prado 90 diesel with the battery placed on the passenger side of the car? i would like to do a dual battery setup but right now have no clue on how to hold the battery on that side of the car. i know the petrol car has their battery on the passenger side but not sure if it will be the same or not.

currently my car stock setup is that there is a battery on the driver side of the car.

    Regards

I have mine on the left, will take a photo on the weekend. very easy to do there is already a platform there. Takes the same plastic tray as the right hand side and a left hand hold down bracket.

Thanks heaps peter! I noticed the space there is perfect for a dual battery but i just cant figure out how to mount it there because there was a special platform on the right hand side.

Here's mine from 4 years ago (I've had the 120 that long?), used to be an AGM before I sold it.

Hope that helps. If you can get hold of a tray and bracket from a petrol it will sit perfectly in the correct place. I just made up my own.

I didn't have to fit a tray! there is a platform already there identical to the right side. Mine being a 2002 and 95 series maybe thats were the differance is. I did read that over sea's the diesel does have two batteries as standard, I may have even seen that in the owners manual not sure. Like the 200 series came out with two batteries as standard.

Hmmmm I cannot remember if I had to fit a tray or not now, too many alcohols between then and now. Mine was a 2001 or 2002. Could have been something to do with fitting the AGM which is a larger battery than the usual N70. Really not sure. I definately tried to get the petrol tie down bracket to make it look factory but as the 90 was still the only model available the wreckers wanted two arms and a naughty bit for the one off a wreck. So I had some 12mm RHS lying around and just bent/bashed it to suit. Anyway libraboy will be able to see if he needs a tray or not. Definately had to make up a tray for the 120 to suit the larger battery. Grabbed a Piranha tray and cut it and added 25mm.

My 2002 95 diesel had the empty spot where I believe the JDM versions have a second battery. Picked up the factory plastic tray and battery clamp from a petrol 95 (they are on the passenger side) and used that, worked perfectly and no need for any aftermarket blingy tray thingy (unless that's your thing). Cost me $10 I think and looks like it belongs there, which I suppose it does.

I splurged and got the Piranha BTPRAD dual battery tray. I looked into making my own bracket, platform etc but TJM Parramatta had a BTPRAD in stock so I picked it up for $180. It didn't fit all that well though, and takes away a tad bit of height clearance - I wanted to fit a Lifeline 100Ah but it was too tall, so ended up with an Century wet cell 100Ah which is much shorter and fit in PERFECTLY.

If I were to do it again I would order the petrol variant tray/bracket from a wrecker.

hmm i know of the petrol battery tray however from where i am it might be a lil bit harder, for some reason the prado that i know of are always diesel. Is there any online wrecker that can ship internationally or anybody here willing to help me out with it :P

You can easily make one up as I did. Getting the bits from the petrol is just easier when they are available.

                        Hello everyone,

I have a 90series v6 petrol and was wondering how difficult and where to place a dual battery. i have had my prado for 12months now and ready to start some mods. i thought this was a good place to start. and next will be a 2' inch lift.

if you have any pictures it will be great.

                        thanks alot.

if i wernt mistaken the petrol 2nd aftermarket battery tray is positioned in the same area as the main starter battery. search it up on ebay and you might be able to find one. i got my 2nd battery tray from pirana and it came with instructions.
