picked this prado up for $2700 unlic, bald tires, was told it had a blown head gasket, looking very ratty from sitting under a pine tree for a year !
decided about a week after i got my 90 that the V6 was destined to be a boat anchor ! LOL
always wanted to do a D4D auto and actualy had a complete motor that had thrown a rod thinking i could just replace the block however the head was completly screwed aswell! not long after a bargain 1kz poped up from a ex mine 90 snapped it up an so it began , the search for the restr of the parts ! wiring, PS hoses ECU Auto box,
the motor come with a heap of other stuff that i needed
the whole of aus at the time i couldnt find a auto diesel harness , i was at a local wrecker getting some other bits when i come across a 120 1KZ auto withthe full drive line still in it with the wiring! 500 for all the wiring and ECUs 750 for the auto and transfer case with very few Ks on it
so the conversion ! well a LOT of ppl are scared of conversions ! if you dont know what your doing then they can be a EXPENCIVE night mare
i started stripping all the engine wires from the 120s main harness this took a fair amout of time looking over 120 and 90 wiring diagrams i was left with a pretty tiny harness witha few plugs on it
then the time come to to the mechanicals
engine out new one in was pretty straight foward HOWEVER the bellhousing on a diesel is longer than a petrol due to a much larger torque converter and flywheel this pushed the transfer further to the rear luckily the diesel trasfer i have is shorter it is a electronic center diff lock type maybe thats why but th9is made the drive shafts line up pretty much in the same spot as V6 !!! sweeeeet BUUT the cross member is in the wrong possition details later
all the mechanicals are done fuel lines reused ,fuel pumps removed and replaced with a fiter pick up D4D fuel filter used
diesel p/s lines fitted
everything just bolted up as normal i am using my original V6 airbox so a custom intake was made i went this way as there were too mant things to move otherwise
now for the wiring ! bassicly started off loosly setting the tails out around the cab . its not as big as what some ppl think diesel and petrol use a lot of the same wires ;relays power feeds, sensors so it was just a matter of looking at wiring diagrams finding matching and joining the 2 harnesses together
the 90 imobiliser wont talk to the 120 ECU so i had to get a new 120 imob and key and wire that in
well with the bassic wiring done it started up straight away !
3 full days later all the wiring was finished wrapped up and tucked away !
