J66P, any chance you did a write up on these or have the measurements / materials list? I have a mate that does fabrication and I want to see what he can do with details of yours.

    Cheers!

              Re: Rock slider mounts (90s)

As some of you may be aware i am making sliders for 120 series Prados for PP members. Just starting work on setting up to do the same for the 90 series. Got my donor vehicle to make a start today and am having trouble coming to terms with this LH rear mount. I seem to have less room than VL400 and also have the complexity of having to be able to replicate what i do consistantly and quickly, without being able to check each piece against a vehicle.

Any ideas and pictures about how people have mounted theirs would be appreciated, even if some genius has some ideas that are just theory that might help aswell.

Have a look here at my for sale thread for some more info. viewtopic.php?f=24&t=10333&p=152157#p152157

Yes the bash plate for the fuel tank gets in the way, I have looked at ways of getting around this and the easiest and strongest way is to remove the bash plate, this gives you more room, you then need to create a new bracket that sandwiches the chassis rail with a little U section to go around the fuel lines, the sliders can then be welded to the mounting system, You will then need to make up a new bash plate for the fuel tank. By doing this you can make the new bash plate cover the whole underside of the vehicle, creating a flat bottom.
I think I have desribed it correctly as I wrote this in a hurry.

Thanks for the reply crooza, dont really want to start making new tank gaurds as its not my Prado, also i think my problem is not the gaurd but that the gap between the tank and chassis is only about 5mm. Been working on a solution for a few hours hope it will work. I will let you know what i come up with. still happy to hear anyones ideas though. 2 heads are always better than 1. (no tasmanian jokes please )

I had read that if you can tap a thred or weld a nut on to the bracket so that you can just bolt it from the out side.
                    cheers teza.

Sorry I can't really help with the design. As a potential buyer my preference is to avoid any drilling or welding to the chassis. I'm happy to pull a few things apart if necessary

As for strength, I'm happy to be a test candidate... (notice the gap at the rear wheel)

Yeah I drilled a big hole and welded a nut in the bracket, so overall its only a few mm thicker than the actual bracket. No chance of getting the bracket and a nut in there.

Hi Andrew, how did you go with that L H rear bracket ?
I couldn't see any way of getting a plate up between the chassis rail and the tank that was good enough to tap a thread in, 3mm plate would be about the limit without it actually touching the fuel tank; which could cause problems. Anyway you can see in the picture below i have utilised one of the holes in the bracket that holds the suspension arm, pretty straight forward. You can't see it in the picture but where the top bolt goes through the large square hole in the chassis i have made a plate about 75mm x 30mm x 8mm with a thread tapped in a hole drilled close to one end. This plate with the bolt already screwed in part way can be threaded into the chassis, the top hole on the bracket is slotted so it slides under the head of the bolt, once tightened the plate clamps against the inside of the chassis. I will post some more pics in my for sale thread.

                              Cheers Andrew
