If two sets of springs have the same free height then the spring rate will determine ride height.
Conversely different free heights with the same spring rate will have different ride heights.
Naturally a longer free height with a higher spring rate will have a higher ride height then a shorter/ lower rate etc.
If you increase the spring rate and shorten your free height to try and maintain ride height with better load carrying capacity you run the risk of the springs coming loose/free at full droop, (the early Rangies had a issue with that occuring )
