  • Pirelli or Yoko?

    Lads,

I've been given the option of either pirelli scorpion at's or yokohama geolander g012's. Same price for both tyres. I've read reviews and I favour the pirelli's. What are other people's thoughts?

    Cheers,

    Ben

      Ben,
I'm with you go the Pirelli.

Depending what use you need them for & what Tread pattern?

Sold both a few years ago & never had one complaint with the Pirelli's.

      Cheers,

Ben, the pirelli AT is a very old tyre now almost past it's use by, check out the newer ATR it is similiar to the much loved Bridgestone's, also i think the yoko go12 is only a new tyre haven't heard much about them.

... and after all that I've decided to grab some coopers atr's due to a major delay on all pirelli tyres from suppliers! Coopers should give me a good run tho!

            Hi all,

the Pirelli's have been good to me, but has anybody tried the yoko. GO12's on the 90 series? they read up really well to me.

I'm also keen to hear about the Yokohama GO12, might be on the shortlist when the time comes for replacing my current set of tyres.

Their is a thread on the yoko's, talking to my tyre guy the other day he had some good reveiws for the yoko's, he was thinking they were much the same but maybe a bit more wear on the yoko's over the pirelli.

Can't comment on the new Yoko's, but I've had my current Yokohama Geollander 11+ tyres for almost 90,000 kms and they are still good. I'd have to measure them but at a guess I recon 6+mm of tread left
If the new ones are as good I recon it'd make a good deal

I have just ordered some new 694's LT, the old paseenger 694's have done well over 60k and really probably have 10k left, but i have decided to upgrade as i am heading to fraser soon and don't want to spike an 3/4 bald tyre.

                          Re: Pirelli or Yoko?

                          G'Day All,

New to the site and new to Prado's. Just bought a 98 World Cup (petrol with 130k for $12k) back in Feb and very happy with it so far. Stock as a rock though so need to upgrade a few things before I get off road anywhere reasonably fair dinkum.

First thing's first. The 215/80/16 road tyres have got to go!

Pirelli ATR Apparently had pretty good reviews over the last 12 months (according to dealer at Bob Jane). $235 each
Yokohama GO12 Recommended by the delaer at Bob Jane. $294 each
Mickey Thompson (something? 245/75/16). Recommended by the dealer at Tyrepower. $300 each.

I guess I'm looking for any reasons not to buy any of these? If they're all deemed to be a pretty good tyre then price will be the determining factor.

                          Cheers

                            Hi all,

i have just finished re reading on of the last 3-4 4wd Action mags that have just completed a test on a variety of tyres. personally i bought Maxxis 751 tyres around july last year and whilst we dont do alot off road (not as much as i would like), i have found them to be really good. i admit that we havent put a lot of total kms on them yet but to date they look as good as the day they were put on. unforntunately at the time, i didnt have the $300 per tyre but at $150 or so, i considered them worth a look.

                            regards Tony

Better off going with Michelin A/Ts at about $300 each. Done about 150000 klms on present set and plenty left in em.
Fantastic on and off road and much cheaper considering the miles you get out of them !!
