thanks hogey 66 ,thats interesting , cracks on the side wall due to the tire pressure too low , what??? most people do keep there tires under 40 psi, i do not but most do, to have a smoother ride, i tend to keep them at 40 psi and get better fuel economy. thats just me though , i didn't know there were other reasons for it....... so the nitto grapplers seem a good choise , at about $191.25 a piece

interesting about the deserd hawks though. , a 40% loss of tire usage makes them a more expensive tyre in the long run .... I may have to rethink about considering them.

My Maxxis are AT700 and we're $280 a pop, same price as the Duellers.
I run at least 45 in my tyres, car goes better and ride doesn't improve until I'm down to 20psi.
Cracked side wall ??? How many miles,
i'm mostly highway so prefer a highway pattern. Something with big lugs is asking for a broken rear window plus they tend to heel/toe badly.
Anyone heard of low rolling resistance 4x tyres?
Mrs car came factory fitted, I thought it was a gymick but after replacing them with Michelin, big mistake. Lost half a litre per 100 and car just feels sluggish. Can't wait to replace them. Last Michelins for me.

I got an email this morning that https://www.tyresales.com.au are having a 20% off sale, so there's lots of bargains to be had.

OP for your requirements take a look at the Pirelli Scorpion ATR, fantastic tyre.

All cheap car parts tend to cause problems sooner or later. It's better to save for some time and then purchase. Same is the case with tires.

so would you believe it . i decided to get my ball joints and front end checked before buying tyres and i get there at the mechanic shop and strait away the radiator starts leaking , its just leaking out of the top chamber like from a pin hole ,,,,and as for the frount end , the steering rack is loose , not loose cuz of the bolts but of the support bushes , it slides left and right as you turn /push on the wheel forward and back , with the front end jacked up of course...no wonder the front tyres are buggered and deformed .... just ordered online . radiator 169 and bushes 85 smackaroos...

well i could feel like a shit from the unexpected costs , but then again in a mounths time , a frazer Is . trip is on the cards ,so imagine a breakdown there???
so a blessing today ,it has saved me from a sure thing breakdown ...

finally new boots on . they are not as bulky as i expected , they have a fairly smooth ride to them a light road noise , and as for grip i took them to the round about that i have always slid around with my old tyres where normally a bit of wet and hold on to your seats! , but these austones didnt do anything other than grip , so i went around again and gunned it in the round about and they just gripped well ...So so far so good , new they are ok , We will see how they are with some serous klms on them , but for now for $544 they seem like a "more than fair" cheapo buy. In a mounths time I"m going to frazer and i will give an up date on that with these austones

I’m on my 2nd set of cheap Chinese tyres. I’m currently running Goodride MT’s on the rear and CF Comforser MT’s on the front which are a directional tyre. These tyres cost me $190 ea. Previously I ran Summit Mudhog MT’s all round when they were cheaper at $200 a tyre. Due to popularity they’re mire expensive nowadays. The off-road traction for me is no different between the cheaper & more expensive tyres. I’ve never had a puncture with an MT tyre. When I go off-roading I always air down to 18 psi. The last puncture I had was in a Pirelli Scorpion AT tyre that the car had on when I bought it in 2007. I wasn’t running correct pressures when off-roading then though and got a flat when 4wding with 28 psi. I’ve taken the cheapie tyres to a few 4wd parks, Cape York twice fully loaded, Sundown NP a few times where the the tracks are pure granite rock. I tested the side walls pretty well there on a couple of tight turns on the loop track where there was a sharp rock1.5 feet high that was difficult to avoid but the sidewalks resisted it well I thought. My alloys were nicely gouged though. My friends were impressed haha. As for on manners the cheaper tyres are perfectly fine in my experience.
2005 120 series V6 Grande, 2 inch susp lift (King/EFS combo), 32 inch MT’s, Safari Snorkel, rear diff lock, breathers, Light Force spotlights, UHF, dual batteries.

I tend to agree with you Brett,
the new cheapo austones i bought , did really well in the round abouts as before i was sliding around , also the frazer trip was easy as with most of the trip at 20 psi without engaging the 4x4 . the fuel did nt change from before , so over all so far great im happy and with more money in my pocket . ..
im impressed at the cape york trip you did though , just goes to show there are some good cheapos out there ...
