I think I just got the last of my specialised equipment for the trip.
LF&R has a spare UHF I can borrow.
Mr. Swagman (already & LG&R's casa)
I have a SPOT locator (actually 2). I will share the link to keep up with my track later.
I have a NAV/COM (aviation radio) that can talk over 121.5 Mhz (international distress frequency) to any aircraft.
I also will bring a Motorola Sat. Phone so I can tell the wee one good night.
I was also looking at getting an XO laptop. It's practically a disposable laptop for under $200 (US), but it will depend if I can get the XP hack for it.
Is there anything I'm forgetting (beyond passport, visa, Intl. Drivers licence, etc.)

Ben there is no internet coverage out here outside of the Alice township so bringing a laptop for other than playing DVDs on is not much point.

I need a computer to create a travel log (I guess it would be considered a blog) for the Bruisers.org web-site and forum. I was thinking of purchasing an OLPC XO Laptop It is also called the $100 laptop (even though it runs about $200 (US)). It has no moving parts (no fan & HD), it draws 2-5 watts of power, can be charged with a solar panel or hand crank, has a screen that can be seen in direct sunlight, and is water/sand resistant. I just need it as a word processor and way to download some pictures to the document. If I do get to a wi-fi i can use it to check my mail and video chat with the wife and wee one. If something happens it's practically a disposable computer.

I leave on Tuesday to my trip to your side of the world.
I am bringing several items for y'all.
For the raffle I am donating an Auto Art 1:18 scale model of an FJ Cruiser (It will be used as an example of what you blokes are missing), a Toyota Trail Teams Grill Badge (Highly sought after and going for a fortune on eBay), and FJ Bruisers club stickers (to exchange for small things I'm missing....like food).
Remember there is a meet up in Brisbane on the 19th at Breeky Creek around 3:PM+
See you face-2-face soon.

Look forward to meeting you Ben. I met up with Brad from Maxtrax last Friday and had a bit of a chin wag with him. He seems like a top bloke, unfortunately he cannot make it to the GTG as his daughter has hockey finals at the same time. I picked up the MaxTrax prizes to be drawn at the last nights dinner at Ayers Rock whilst I was there.

Ben arrives at my place on Thu evening and as you know, all available hands are meeting at the Brekky Creek on Friday.
I have a mission to offer you... Mission WakeUp: Help Ben settle into this timezone . To this end, I will be taking a small detour and driving to Bris via the Upper Ormeau tracks. It will also give Ben a chance to experience the mighty D4D first-hand.
If you can join us, I expect we'll be at the Southern trailhead by 9:00am for a 9:30am departure. The tracks will take around 3 hours of meandering and we'll break for morning tea. That should get us to Bris in time for a bit of a look around and then onto the Brekky Creek for the 3pm gathering.
It will also give Ben a chance to experience the mighty D4D first-hand.
LFaR.
Now THAT'S the reason for traveling 1/2 way around the planet.

Um....um....you definitely do things different, but when in Rome, er, I mean OZ, do as the Aussies do.
See you all on Friday or shortly after.
