I can tell you that the Outback 4WD Club did this route last weekend with lots of dramas in the southern part of the route
Mav - this Outback 4wd Club doesn't seem to have much luck with its runs. :?
Actually they do a lot of runs but you only hear about the tough ones. The next day really was a tough one with really hard slog bush bashing for the group, they spent a lot of time making tracks navigable by moving boulders etc to hop on to. Actually I am glad I missed this run.
Cripes  I bet they didnt have trailers either.

Nope nobody had a camper trailer for that part of the trip, however one member, who joined the group at their campground which was just south of Boggy Hole, did bring his trailer down from Hermannsburg through Boggy Hole. Apparantly the really tough going was the section south of Boggy Hole to Ernest Giles Rd.

Will keep an eye on this thread, and also get the UP-TO-THE-MINUTE track report at Yulara, end of the GTG as we (some of the WAPPers) intend to do this part through boggy hole on our return trip home.
Jeff.
Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

Given that we are doing this trip on the way from Ross River Resort -> Palm Valley -> Boggy Hole -> and meeting again with evyone at Kings Canyon
you'll have all the info required to make decision on this one.

I did the full track last week. This included Herrmansburg to Palmvalley, back to Herrmansburg then down the Finke Gorge National Park through to Earnest Giles Road. My Prado, a Hilux and an 80 Series. No punctures (we all aired down to 20F/26R) No scratches and no one got bogged. The track is in quite good condition but as has been previously stated, relatively slow. We camped at Boggy Hole, no one else there but there seemed to be quite a bit of room unless a group beat you to it. We didn't set any records just had a lot of fun driving this track. This trip is not overly hard and well worth the effort in MHO. Only dropped to L4 on a couple of occasions and the remainder was in AWD. I'm not sure that I would take my camper trailer though...maybe getting a bit soft in my old age.
We did however run into another Prado and a Pajero who were in company and both bogged to the axles in soft sand. This was north of Boggy Hole, they were travelling north, they had highway tyres, highway pressures, no comms and not much of an idea. After we helped them out, the bloke in the Prado kindly offered the advice that the Earnest Giles Road was a bit of a goat track. I can guarantee you it isn't. Good for 80 - 100kmh. Sure met some characters out and about.
I took some photos of various parts of the track and I will post them once I work out how to do it properly.
There was talk awhile ago as to who was planning to take this route to Kings Canyon. Since ive now pulled out of the Simpson crossing I now will be able to tackle this track with other PPGTG folks. I will be taking my Cub camper and happy to lead this trip if needed. Ive done this trip once before but happy to tranverse this track again soon once I can get organised and get out there. Its only 2 hours from home and im in need of a good days drive,

Hi Zook,
Im not sure if that particular plan is still on. ( I could be wrong ) Some of the WA crowd, myself included are doing the Boggy hole run after the GTG as discussed here viewtopic.php?f=40&t=5596&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
Im sure you would be a welcome addition with your experience of the route
We'll be camping in Palm Valley on 6th of July and at Boggy Hole on 7th of July.
Cheers,
Stan

Cheers Stan,
I lost this thread there for a while, couldnt remember if I left a message. All good now. Sent a PM in regards to camper trailer, should not be a prob to leave @ my house if needed. It will give mine company. I had to cancel the Simpson trip to join this so ill be making the most of my limited time off. Im still planning a trip down Boggy Hole soon as Fergs or Happy Trails (Mark) can get away from their misses. That way we will all know if the track will be fine for the campers. As long as we have some vehicles without trailers we should be alright, someone has to do the recovery mission if needed. Ive spoken to a few guys in town lately about conditions and they tell me its not too difficult, so by the time we drive it should have compacted some what,
Zook.
P.S. looking forward to it, not long now.

Stan and others coming along to Boggy Hole;
As this is a nice bush camping spot, the run in from Palm Valley is not a long day, and a good camp/cooking
fire is possible - I was wondering if maybe a roast dinner that night would be in order.
We'd just have to make sure we each carry in sufficient firewood (no collecting firewood in the National Park),
and of course remember to pack the camp-oven, leg of lamb, potatos and vege, etc to feed the family.
Just thinking out lound, let me know your thoughts..............

I am going to have to ask that no more people change their routes and accommodation this close to the event, if Longdog has already booked Glen Helen then he will be up for cancellation fees as they start applying if a person cancels within 30 days of the booking. It is extremely difficult to organise the event if folks keep changing what they are going to be doing. So can we make this the cutoff for the Boggy Hole people please?
