GTG 2012 Minimum Vehicle Requirements

In other words, "metal fatigue has properly started and it is much more likely to let go than my first time".

When I hear people speak with bravado about such exploits, internally I'm thinking "you haven't got a clue!". Politely try to re-educate the fellow or decline the offer of help.

If there was no other option would removing tow ball from gooseneck and fitting a bow shackle through the hole and snatching off that be safe enough?

The reality is that the recovery hitch that replaces the towball is only $50-60. Just make sure it fits as there are two types. One which is square that fits the HR and one with rounded corners to fit the Toyota hitch

Its a lot safer than using the towball, however "no other option" is a big call. Remember that when snatching goes horribly wrong people die, snatching (as opposed to a gentle tow) should be your last resort anyway, although not many think this way. If digging, Maxtrax, winching, jacking, pushing, waiting have all been exhausted and snatching is the only option and you don't have the correct gear to do it safely then you need to seriously reconsider what you are doing.

Even though this is in the GTG minimum requirements thread, I would think it unlikely that we will actually snatch anyone on the GTG, too many other options too go through before we get to that. But like all good boy scouts we need to "Be Prepared"

Hey, sometimes you get away with anything around a camp fire, after a few drinks, even a quick grab of the snatch, I mean quick grab or snatch.

Dave, using Rohypnol means they are NOT awake, well according to the judge but what would that old fart know about dating anyway ? I'm sure she wanted to be my girlfriend and was consenting, I just ran out of time to ask before the stuff kicked in.

The committee is meeting this weekend and it will probably be discussed. I think there is a very good chance that we will be checking that vehicles comply. Those who don't will sit in the naughty corner for the 7 day GTG.

I am uneasy about a non complying vehicle putting themselves at risk as well as others including me who will likely have to rescue/assist. Just not fair on all concerned.

For example, if you don't have acceptable recovery points I cannot imagine anyone hooking you up to snatch you out. I will however send an email to your next of kin.

No need to put ourselves at risk with snatch straps. In the army they are banned as to dangerous, there other ways to get a vehicle moving. I will lend them the Max Trax, I might even go all out and lend them my shovel as well. Then so as not to be acused of interfering, I'll stand out of the way and watch the action.
