2014 GTG Vic high country - ask anything here

Not that I'm going... but I figure it's relevant to the GTG... and I hope it hasn't been asked already. If it has please point me in the right direction.

Port-a-potti's over long stays ... where you do you dump the slop as I was told the chemical only lasts 4 days from when it's first used.
I gather there's no dump points at talbotville.

Last time I was at Talbotville there was only two drop dunnies ans sixty cars leading to some big line ups, has it got any better?

Hey Richo, I didn't see the second loo. So if there was 2 that's all there is. There was quite a lot of people there over the weekend and the line for the facility wasn't too bad. At least it was clean and did not smell.

The second loo is down the south end of the campground and that would be the preferred location for the GTG crowd. One loo to ourselves and one to share with others unfortunate enough to share the campground with us.

The guys at the camping show in BNE on the weekend said if you use the 'bio-degradable' chemical it's allowed to be put in any toilet or buried. Was keen to hear what others do but I think that would be the simplest/cleanest solution.

I think the bottom of mc millans would be preferred as it seems bigger & flatter, grass is shorter.

2 long drops and yes last cup weekend it's was the most discussing stinking shit hole I ever smelt.

Just a suggestion for the committee re the Long Drop!

When we were recently in the Pilbara, in all the National Park Long drops they had a toilet brush attached to an appropriate length of string (so you don't loose it down the hole) and a bucket full of water with some sort of disinfectant I think in it, it was a bluey colour. Protocol was to give the bowl a quick scrub before and after each use and even in Karajini where there was a LOT of people the toilets had almost zero smell.

Something to consider for you guys maybe.

Those WA toilets were designed for use with the brush (or they messed the design up and they needed the brush to fix it) The Vic long drops do not have the plastic/metalwork, just a long drop under the seat. This creates more ventilation. Another problem is Parks have not worked out the the black breather pipe should be on the north side so the sunshine can make it work.

Not sure then if the West Aussie design was good luck or good management, but they were excellent!
