Hey Glen, the more the merrier. No problem!

Hey Wayne, so far no punctures, just a tyre valve ripped off in a rough river crossing which caused a flat.
But yes the likes of billy goats has the potential to damage a tyre if people don't air down to recommended pressures & with some crap luck.

Not sure what the committee thinks, but my personal opinion is leave it in the shed. You have a spare & plenty Prado point buddies around happy to help out if any of us are so unlucky.

On the 2012 GTG we didn't think anyone needed a spare tyre, however some of the rookie drivers proved us wrong with Dodgy Dave (Pradogxl) ripping the side wall off his brand new tyre and Andrew "I'm a 4wd instructor" (AJ120) needing two spares when his amateur sand driving techniques resulted in two flats.

      • Definitely potential to screw a tyre, but if my amateur driving skills not do a tyre then should be ok.
I can confirm my sidewalls were beaten & bashed after billy goats on Sunday, but I got lucky again.

I don't want to give too much away, but unfortunately yes that's about the best we have been able to find.
It is a little rough in places, depends who you are talking to some blood pressure will double at the sight of some sections & others will maybe smile. It a little rougher that 9 months ago.
There are a few other very good tracks around that might present a challenge if it rains.

For you Glen there are a Couple challenging short cuts you can give a try with the lockers. I will be happy to watch & photograph.

              • I have a feeling this has already been covered but after searching I haven't come up with the answer. I know we are being shouted a BBQ on the first night (very generous of one of our sponsors) but are there any other evening meals we don't have to self cater?
                Not long now!

                Cheers........Wayne

                  Hi Wayne,

                  Short answer, no.

We had a few ideas, but being so remote for that long as far as supplies goes, it wasn't looking like they would work out.
So no there are no other meals included.

One other thing, The plan is on the presentation day Tuesday 15th, it's a day off/do your own thing a bit & then Dargo pub for lunch.
Afterwards presentations either back at Talbotville or at the back of the pub outside if the weather is bad.

                  • Where can we go for a shower? We don't have a shower or tent for it and we're going to get pretty dirty, so we'll need to shower a few times!
                    Cheers, Brad

                    • I'm bringing a 12v Primus shower and a tent for it Braddo, otherwise it's the river I expect.

                      • There's a river that will come in handy for you then, otherwise you'll have to make friends with someone who has a shower.

                        P.S. See previous post......LOL

Didn't really want to bludge off other people and use their showers, but maybe we could come to some arrangement..........

Don't even know if the shower works yet, it's brand spanking. Still have to heat water for it and feed juice to it from a car battery but has to be better than cold water tipped over the head LOL. I saw a giant billy can at Aussie Disposals the other day, they called it a hot water service because it had a pipe out the side LOL. It's a bit bulky though but way less expensive than an Aqua Cube or similar fancy hot water service.

I have a question too. What size gas bottle does a trip like this generally require? I have a 4kg and a 9kg and need to supply a 2 burner stove and a lantern off an extension pole.

                              • A 2 burner stove won't use much gas, but I haven't used a gas lamp for years so no idea. We have 2 x 4kg gas bottles on the Tvan (2 burner stove) and I haven't had to use the second bottle yet on any trip.
                                Cheers.....Wayne
