  • I was thinking of getting one of these as it packs up flat and no chemicals to carry or dispose of :-

    http://www.ironman4x4.com/html/bushtoilet.html

There's also the Jimmy's Thunderbox which is a similar design but more expensive and has a wooden lid, the Ironman one is $79 and I think its seat is more hygenic/easier to clean. Some people just dig a hole under the toilet and bury everything, chuck a handful of lime in each time you use the loo to keep the pong factor down. The guy at Ironman I spoke to just borrows a mates powered post hole digger to dig a new hole each day LOL.

Or just dig a very deep hole & fill over the no.2 each time. no lime needed :-)

You would have to walk a bit to dig a good hole and be private , as for digging a hole in the campsite that could be interesting.

        • Dig the hole in your tent.

But I think the area is too nice to wreck with holes that's why they have a dunny there. It's more suitable elsewhere.

Here's a question? So if thetford is no good there where the hell can you use it? A caravan park where there's already a toilet, but silly, bush crappers are new to me, I have the ford, so that basically useless anywhere!?!?!?

Thetford make two types of chemicals, a blue and green one. The blue is a real no no in septic systems and only good at dump points. The green is more environmentally friend but still not the best. There are products out there which are septic safe and that is what we have packed for our Thetford so it can be emptied down the long drop at Talbotville.

            • Question I have just finished preparing the prado for the trip my question is is it ok to use a second snatch strap as an equaliser strap or do I need to purchase a dedicated equaliser strap?.

IMO, you could perhaps use it, if you needed to, however for a few $ & easier - (shorter) I'd always have an equaliser to use.
Then that will double as a tree strap or an extra tree strap. I'd just buy whichever one is rated higher.

                • Snatch strap would be too long and not suitable, spend the coin and get a proper equaliser strap.

                  • Disco, if expect you will get a series of yes and nos. I suggest you buy items for their intended use only. The issue is will the snatch strap have a weak point where the snatch strap connects as it was not intended to work as a bridle. I would only do this if desperate,.

It is a little rough in places, depends who you are talking to some blood pressure will double at the sight of some sections & others will maybe smile. It a little rougher that 9 months ago.
There are a few other very good tracks around that might present a challenge if it rains.

For you Glen there are a Couple challenging short cuts you can give a try with the lockers. I will be happy to watch & photograph.
                        Thanks mate,
Billy Goats is a pretty rough track and can get very steep at times. It certainly gets interesting when you have two convoys trying to pass each other in places like the bluff itself! That's when things get really scary - driving up edges and such ;-)

Those short cuts sound interesting - can't wait !!!

The one I linked comes with biodegradable bags, IIRC it's OK to dispose of them in the long drop.

                            Thankx Vaughan,

At the risk of sounding sillier than usual, When you say dump points, what do you mean? Where are they?
So do you have the green or another product?

                            • So while we're on the topic of poo, if biodegradable chemicals are ok for the drop loo, I'm guessing the bio bags are too? We have a thunder down under and apparently the bags break down within about 3 months?

                              • I thought chemicals are not allowed in drops - even if biodegradable - because it may harm the life forms which are down there performing the composting.

Only food waste, animal waste (that includes ours), cold ash and paper.
