    • Sad looking bunch arnt we?

We wore out our smiles from all the fun & laughter, that was our tired grumpy look
Don't worry it didn't last long & we were cracking the next joke.

      • Blue Rag looks a little tame after they graded all the rocks away, although I'd hate to come down it in the wet now with no rocks for grip.

I thought I recognised that one, it truly is a great place the GTG will be my third visit there and still seen "bugger" all. if you need I am happy to assist as a tail end charlie if required.

See ya in the High Country, Richo.

          • Looks like I will need to pack a water bra going by the depth of those creeks as I don't have a snorkel. But it still looks like a great area to explore.

It is tame, like most of rhe tracks, although they are a little steep in places, they are getting them graded to subaru friendly.
That being said, I highly recommend 2" lift for the trip as some of the steeper tracks have BIG HIGH conservation mounds, you just clear with a good lift, standard will scrape or get hung up.
The rock is still there, it's just smooth packed rock base, plenty of traction, so no challenge, but much safer than it used to be for going up or down in the wet.

Yeah you can drive around forever to see only some of the tracks, many more reccies required if we are to make sure you don't miss the best of what we can fit into the few days of the GTG.
You never know, We might take you up on that offer. Thankx.

At standard water levels you should be ok without either, we took some a bit deeper for photo sake, Barajak has no snorkel & has never had any problems. If there was more depth & current we need to be carefull.
There s one crossing in particular that has some very large rock shelves, it is a little difficult to navigate, I walked in & could only see one good way through it. I'm not sure how many but at least one of us had issues nearly getting hung up & some minor damage to a wheel so all trip leaders will have to be familiar with that one.
I think there might be less water in april.
These drives to experienced drivers will be "easy drives" but to newer less experienced will get their thrills & blood pumping many times, so get you health check from the doc before you leave home

I recommend anyone with a chainsaw brings it, both for firewood & track clearing. On one track 95% of the way through to blue rag after navigating a minefield of trees down, we came around 7 BIG trees down.
I was the only one of 7 with a saw, & only had enough fuel to clear 5 or so of them.
Lucky we took so long to decide what to do we had many other vehicles with a few other saws to help finish the job.
The point is many hands & saws makes light work. That's easier & quicker to move on & reduces the risk of having to turn around.

                  • Looks like the last vehicle through is going to have a very wet track to contend with after 40 vehicles have been through all thos creek crossings.

True when it's busy on those crossings the track does get very wet .

                      • Cup weekend was busy as it gets they were wet. But still easy enough.
We will have groups of 8 or 10 not 40 at once.

Thanks for sharing that Anders, looks like fun. Are they likely to be deeper come April?

You don't know up there with how much rain the high country may get, i have done those crossings many times before and they have been deeper and the entries and exits alot rougher it was very easy this time .

                            • OK, was asking because I don't have a snorkel. I do have an operational winch now though :-)

                              • Hey fido, Barajak (James) will be leading trips, he has a 150 no snorkel so if you follow him you could be ok ?
