ROUTE 3 deleted - lack of interest & too many routes too choose.
Originally posted by barajak View PostWe have four different routes to Talbotville you can choose between. We need to know you preferred option so we can have trip leaders for the right numbers.
1- Take the Scenic Mansfield-Whitfield Rd and cruise past three cellar door wineries on your way to Bright for a top up of food and fuel. This is for wino's, those towing vans and on-road trailers and PPers that do not want to get dirty before they need to.
2- Take King Basin Rd (Rd by name only), Speculation Rd, Cobbler Lake Track and Cobbler Rd to the Buffalo Valley and then on to Bright. Mainly good off-road tracks and bush roads with some sections a bit rough. several water crossings and huts on the way. OK for off-road trailers.
3- Take King Basin Rd (Rd by name only), Speculation Rd, Cobbler Lake Track and over the top of the National Park on Abbeyard-Lake Cobbler Track to the Buffalo Valley and then on to Bright. This is not recommended for trailers as it has some challenging steep accents and descents similar to Billy Goats Track in SA. Steep terrain equals views and this will not disappoint either.
4- Take the two day back country option via Lovick's Hut, King Billy Track and Wonnangatta Valley. Very scenic, no trailers, no resupply before Talbotville and air-bag suspension at own risk.
Make your preference known or PM me if you want to keep it secret.

No. 3 just sounded more appealing and challenging than 2 but not as extreme as 4, as well as going to Bright, that's all!Cheers, Brad

It's a very long drive & only a few parts that could prove difficult, but so far as been easily driven.
A couple of spots with no lift you might scrape. Could be fun in the wet on the jeep trk.
Other drives from Talbotville could prove more challenging especially if water was added.
