  • Time to upgrade.

Time to trade my 2009 petrol prado, by the way has been a great trouble free car, looking at my options, either paj or prado diesel.

Would like opinions of diesel 150 owners before I make a decision

Just spent 30 minutes in each and here are my opinions right or wrong.

Paj, drives more like a car/ sportier if that's possible for a 4wd, much better sound system, dash layout looks better, may have a touch more power, better vision from drivers seat, looks like I might run into trouble with the towbar/spare tyre setup.

Prado, driving feels like steering a sloppy bus when cornering, going straight it's fine, Seat definitely better, also leather inserts I like, much quieter under acceleration both motor and road noise, lack of 12v outlet in back but does have 100 watt inverter,

    Any opinions appreciated

    Thanks Craig

I believe that you will get much better re-sale with the Toyota

Also, the VX doesn't corner like a bus at all... KDSS is a wonderful thing.

    Cheers,

    Jeff

I will go either platinum paj or altitude prado. Yes about $10000 more for the prado but the paj will tow more.

It really comes down to your preferences. If the Prado won't tow to the capacity that you require then go with the Paj.

If you're looking at the Altitude, I believe the sound system is quite good and has other additional extras like SatNav, Sunroof, front parking sensors, but I'm sure the Paj has these features.

When I bought my Prado, the main concern for me was the re-sale value with 150k-200k klms. The Prado was the only vehicle that I thought would give me the best return. Also Toyota make a VERY reliable 4X4 with many years of experience.

          Cheers,

          Jeff

for 10K you can get Aux tank, upgraded AT tyres, spare set of MT play tyres, bullbar, winch, suspension lift and still have approx $100 left for beer to put in the fridge, assuming you might want to do some mods

The diesel pajero hold there value quit well different story but with the petrol, the prado petrol seems to hold it better then the pajero petrol. The pajero will outdo a diesel prado (this is coming from a prado owner). My neighbour has the DID pajero exceed the other a 150 GXL D4D diesel, pulling up hawksbury hill, mooney mooney the pajero out guns the prado by a few car lengths by the top. Not saying the prado is gutless but the pajero has more grunt. We had the 1KZ prado 90 (mine, gutless) pajero, prado (above mentioned 4wd's) a triton and terracan, hilux all turbo diesels when we went to stockton about year and 1/2 ago. Just for fun we were all travelling to gether and hit the bottom of mooney at the same time, then stayed at the limit (110) till we started to climb the other side then we gave them the boot to see who had the torque, (anyone can go fast down hill so saw no point in that) first to hit the top was the pajero, second was prado, triton, terracan, hilux and then mine (miles behind). The only reason we bought the prado over the pajero was the live axle rear end. We were on the border of the pajero (exceed) but I new the prado was better for articulation off road and dont have the issues of rear tyres also scrubbing out on the rear due to the IRS in the rear of the pajero. The pajero is without a doubt noisier inside compared to the prado, but the pulling power the mitsi has is fantastic. Hence why there is a lot of older people who just do mainly touring towing there caravans that use pajero's. While I love the prado's I would not hesitate owing a pajero for touring just not for that harder off road stuff, the earlier pajeros were better due to the live rear and they had like the prados. I found the pajero more comfortable, like the dash layout, the rear dickie seats had there plus and minus's to them but we always remove the rear seats anyway so didnt bother us either way with that when deciding. Just my opinion between the two and like evrything Im sure there are people who will totally disagree with me but thats fine, everyone has there own opinion on things..........Cheers Steve, PS have a search on the pajero furum and can asure you they dont have as many issues as the 150 prado diesels are having........

I went through this exact issue 5 months ago before I purchase the 150, here is my input.

                1. You know you want the Toyota
                2. Give the Pajero 1 or 2 years and see the Rattles it will be making both from the motor and the internal trimmings...
                3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeYmDOzoibk
                4. Prado will be better offroad
                4. Resale on Toyota will be better
                5. PradoPoint.com

The only thing I thought was an advantage for the Pajero is better towing capacity / capabilty.

In the end I purchased the Prado 150 and have never looked back, as my wife said at the time......"If you buy the Pajero you will be regretting it every time a Prado passes by"...

Point number 3 Bernie could happen to anyone, this was one of those freak things. Point 2, isnt there an issue with the 150's rattling some where around the drivers side near the windscreen, from brand new !! Some thing to do with drivers side guard im sure I read, http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...on-and-rattles droning around the 1500rpm mark, rattling rear seats ??? http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ps-in-VX-Model this is from new not 1 or 2 years old. I still love my prado but they do have their faults like any vehicle......Cheers steve

No doubt the Paj would be good onroad, it has IRS. Unfortunately for offtoad that brings a few major drawbacks: less lift, less articulation and probably less tire upgrade options. This won't just affect drivers like myself, it'll hamper anyone's effort to climb out of ruts and mud holes. It also impares stability in uneven terrain (where wheels lift from ground).

Looks to me as if your mind is made up. Just buy the Pajero. Good luck.

Both out standing cars, without knowing a bit more about your expectations of the vehicle its hard to say.
But i think you will be happy in either.
Its funny about test drives. My situation is a bit different, but i thought the 3 yr old 120's that I test drove, felt far better than the 1-2 yr old Paj's that i test drove. To me the Paj's felt very floaty, but i guess its very much personal preference.
                          Regards, Heath.

I did the same when buying my 120.
The important things for me at the time was driver comfort and third row seats.
The Pajero and more bells and whistles, but the Prado had a better fit and finish (IMO) and the third row seating in the Paj were a joke, not sure if this has changed.

But it does sound like you have made up your mind. Enjoy what ever you buy.

The Pajero may tow more legally (3,000kg v 2,500kg), but there is no way that I would tow 3,000 kg with one. I have a boat that weighs just over 2,000 kg and it is scary enough towing this much. The towing capacity is just a figure that the manufacturer sets, there does not appear to be any rhyme or reason to how it is set. There are larger vehicles with smaller figures, but which in my view are safer. Remember, the mass of the towing vehicle is very important in controlling the towed vehicle.
