Gxl as it at least has 660kg of capacity, not 560 like vx, time we fill fuel and put family in starting to get tight, and that's without bar work, and tow ball weight. But even the 660 is a bit of a joke the gx with 780 is getting there

I had the same dilemma when we were shopping around to replace my beloved sports car for a 4x4 SUV. I am not a big fan of leather specially when I decide to go extreme 4x4 and knowing that I am going to get down and dirty, do you really want to get back into your vehicle after you get yourself out of a bog in knee height mud and pissing down rain. The wood grain finish looks really old and cheap, I would rather have that black shiny plastic finish.
I checked out Carsales and the most expensive VX are selling for about 85K, the cheapest is 75k. I got mine for 60k, so that is a 10-15k difference.
You could buy a lot of aftermarket accessories for the money that you save. The only thing that I like about the VX/ Kakadu is the LED lights/DRLs.
KDSS and crawl control from the Kakadu could always be replace by aftermarket suspension and air lockers, at times it normally comes down to the drivers ability to dominate all terrains. If you are willing to pay that much and you want to feel the king of Prado owners when you are on the road, I would go for the Kakadu. That said, I would rather purchase a brand new Cruiser GXL for that money.
I have no regrets on purchasing a 2014 Prado ebony GXL, I love it. What ever you decide (GXL or VX) just way up whether or not it's worth paying that extra cash. And if you are going to put a seat cover to protect the cheap leather (nothing beats Recaro leather seats) you might as well protect your car by just walking instead of driving it.

I wouldn't want to get on cloth seats covered in mud either. That's what towels and seat covers are for.Originally posted by Black Mamba 2014 View PostI am not a big fan of leather specially when I decide to go extreme 4x4 and knowing that I am going to get down and dirty, do you really want to get back into your vehicle after you get yourself out of a bog in knee height mud and pissing down rain.
There's a lot more to KDSS then aftermarket suspension can replace and air lockers won't do everything that crawl control does.KDSS and crawl control from the Kakadu could always be replace by aftermarket suspension and air lockers, at times it normally comes down to the drivers ability to dominate all terrains.

Congratulations.
My wife likes the "Do-Dadds" as she calls them. For me, KDSS sounds good; for her, memory seats appeal, and also, front parking (or is that just the Kakadu?); Can you use the Toyota technology to add front parking to a GX/GXL? I do like it when the side mirrors dip when you engage reverse; is the sound system much better in the VX?
