The only change I can think of is that the latter models had the 5 speed transmission and a satnav stereo that has aux input and can play MP3s. It probably has bluetooth too. Oh and reverse camera may come as standard.

My 03 Grande has 3 zone a/c. It is TD but I doubt the petrol would be different. Post #16 link confirms this. Good link, thanks, although it incorrectly gives the older diesel the 1KD-FTV name...not a great start!

Yeah you are correct, macaroon, but the 3 zone comes with the GXL from 2007 I believe.

Late 2006 actually, same time they changed the Diesel engine and put a 5 speed behind it.

Hi guys, I am in a similar boat...got my Mazda cx5 written off ( someone smashed in road side parking).and now in the market for a family SUV ... This time I am thinking of getting a proper four wheel drive even though my towing and off road is next to nothing ( off road driving will increase if I get prado but only once or twice a year)... For me the main concern is the safety as I have a one year old and driving experience....

My usage is around 15k a year so not a much of difference in petrol or diesel specially with me doing next to no towing. I can see that 120 series has only 2 airbags compare to 150 having 7.... I am leaning towards 150 for this reason only and also being less expensive on maintenance being petrol. I can get a 2010 model with 80-90km on the clock for around 36-37 depending on the condition if the vehicle... Someone mentioned to go for a kluger if I am not doing any off road driving as their drive is smoother than prado for city driving.... Is it true?

Also is there anything I need to be beware off before buying a 2nd hand prado petrol 150 series...thanks

I realise this is a Toyota forum but for your needs have you looked at the Izuzu MU-X 4x4 with Dmax engine rather than the above. I'll wash my mouth out now!

I have to say I agree with this.

I looked at the Izuzu range 18months ago but nothing suited my needs. I'm happy with my 120 V6 VX, as a personal vehicle, but if I was looking to buy now, the latest range from Izuzu would definitely be a consideration.

Having said that, I will be needing a work vehicle soon. Considering the woeful track record of Toyotas diesels and their general complete contempt for customers and denial of straight up warranty claims, I have to disregard them as a reliable work truck option. So far Izuzu is looking good in this regard.

I had the same concern about which to choose and ended up with an 09 120 GXL and I love it. Was the looks that sold me as it has taken me a while to accept the look of the 150 but the inside is just plain ordinary for a 60k plus car.

If you see a good low klm 120 or 150 take them both for a drive and make a call on which one you like better.

P.S - Just when I got used to the look of the 150 and think they look ok now they brought that latest one out and that is bloody worse with those Sh&^%house front lights. I have seen a few now with bars on the front and they are the most ordinary looking thing I have seen.

The 150 features vis a vis the 120, the GXL diesel auto models, 2009 150 v 2008 120 (Redbook data source):

150 Cost $5,000 more, plus 120 run outs would have been discounted while the 150 would not have been.
Chassis is stronger, with an extra crossmember. Scuttle shake may be less therefore.
                          Reviews said quieter.
The driving position is straight on in the 150, while the 120 is still crooked. You do get used to that though, as the 90/95 is the same crooked posture.
The firewall is further forward I believe, which is why the windscreen is also I think and also the screen is more angled. I think the dash is also higher? The reason why is perhaps more length in the cabin but perhaps practically its not much longer?
Hence better aero, both from the windscreen angle and positioning, and also due to dropping the flares which have quite poor aero, plus its lower.
The 150 did well in crash tests, likely chassis changes and length made it a bit safer. Into a brick wall that is - hitting another car, I doubt there's much difference. Except for all the airbags in the 150s.
Reviews said the brakes better in the 150. (not sure about whether they wear better). I don't have brake swept area stats though.
                          There are more airbags
Slightly wider body and also wider inside.
Likely shallower in interior height though (the 90 is higher again inside).
Gross Combination Mass (kg) 90 heavier.
                          Length (mm) + 80
                          Width (mm) + 10
                          Height (mm) - 60
Track Front (mm) + 10 (wheel tyre same)
                          Track Rear (mm) + 10
Adjustable Steering Col. - Has Reach Adjustment
Air Cond. - Climate Control Multi-Zone
                          Air Conditioning - Pollen Filter
                          Airbag - Knee Driver
Airbags - Head for 1st Row Seats (Front)
Airbags - Head for 2nd Row Seats
Airbags - Head for 3rd Row Seats
Airbags - Side for 1st Row Occupants (Front)
Audio - Aux Input USB Socket
                          Audio - Input for iPod
                          Bluetooth System

Leather Look - Handbrake (Maybe 120)
                          Multi-function Control Screen - Colour
                          Power Steering - Electro-Hydraulic
                          Power Steering - Speed Sensitive
Seat - Driver with Electric Lumbar
                          Seat - Rear Slide Adjustment
Starter Button - Key/Fob Proximity (perhaps 120s in 2008 had this?)
Storage Compartment - In Cargo Area
Sunvisor - Illuminated Vanity Mirrors Dual
                          Tail Lamps - LED

Gurtej, if your 4x4 driving and towing is going to be next to zero, why get one with all of the compromises/costs that go with it? Look at Territory diesel, Kluger, new CX 5, CX7 CX9, Rav 4 and some of the Hyundais. If your main use is around town any of these will probably do a better job. Towing , lots of dirt, rough outback stuff, nothing beats the Prado IF you will be doing that sort of stuff. Neil
